tim are you referring to stuff like Princess Nyah/Ill Blu's 'Around the World'? Don't have much to offer you but I do know DJ Pantha makes some good dnb now and then.

Probably need to distinguish between the majority of the actually big mainstream d&b tunes - which are basically emoto-brostep sped up (which makes sense given so much of brostep sounds like the most lumpen end of d&b slowed down) and the stuff I posted at the beginning of the thread, which is connected but different, more like a more mainstream version of the sound DJ Clever was peddling eight years ago.

I guess a rising tide lifts all ships - all of these (at times slightly contradictory) angles feel bigger and more embracing than they have for ages.

have you heard that fabric mix tim?

Those Fracture and Rockwell tunes are total jams.

Feelin that Nero track too..

All of these have a very clean rush to them, no?

matt damon & the jb's (the anephric project), Friday, 28 September 2012 02:27 (eleven years ago) link

basically emoto-brostep sped up

there's also the supposed-glitch hop/moombahcore/whatever being just slowed down brostep - as a brostep enthusiast i really appreciate the opportunity to enjoy it any tempo ranging from 110 to 180, feel so spoiled :)

and beatport's breaks top 10 is good for a cheap lol or two

Returning to these videos and actually watching them. Retro-nostalgia only for the last one, and given the track, seems obvious. Guess I'm just surprised that there's videos for D'n'B, and that they're not terrible either!

Also checking out that Fracture mix from Metalheadz this morning, about halfway through. Certainly I get the link to Troubled Waters, the multiple tempos and rhythms, rather than 2-step locked grooves, etc. Seems like there's a whole range of tracks taking off from the rhythmic zone of Twitchy Droid Leg, which can only be a good thing.

It's good isn't it! Not actually as good as Troubled Waters or Unsung Heroes (obv - those are up there with the best d&b mixes ever) but still much better than I expected going in.

A few interesting moments of cross-fertilization on that mix:

Seems like there's interesting stuff, but the 'overblown' part of this thread title makes things difficult. Keep noticing a divide between complex 'experimental' OSR style d'n'b, and blaring muscular locked groove tracks. That said, there's quite a few new labels around these days, should keeping digging...

I really like that Logistics track upthread, btw.

Trouble Waters 2, wonder if this will ever happen?

MikoMcha, Sunday, 30 September 2012 14:12 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah I guess "overblown" was a bit misleading - but stuff like "Get Busy" and "Blaze The Fire" seem like more anthemic takes on complex beats than is usual for that end of things.

Tim F, Sunday, 30 September 2012 14:13 (eleven years ago) link

"Never Been" too. Dub Phizix seem really interesting, Source Direct meet Mala sort of?

Tim F, Sunday, 30 September 2012 14:15 (eleven years ago) link

The Logistics remix is a monster.

more fruity brostep bangers please, mind taker!! great selections

spacemindy, Friday, 5 October 2012 21:08 (eleven years ago) link

Dj clever most overrated dnb thing ever imo

the late great, Friday, 5 October 2012 21:33 (eleven years ago) link

spacemindy - to be honest i'm not much of a drum&bro expert, those were basically a year's worth of me checking it out on rare occasion and finding something to enjoy!

a few other things you might perhaps give a try:

Sub Focus feat. Alice Gold - Out the Blue
SKisM & DC Breaks - Killer (Tantrum Desire Remix)
Brookes Brothers - Tear You Down / Paperchase / Big Blue
Emperor - The Fire
