that toccata is amazing, it was mentioned elsewhere, somewhere.

Can't believe I've neglected Mungolian Jetset so far. This one sounds like a lost Orb track from '92!
― hot slag (lukas), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 23:14 (eleven years ago) link
it's at 1.33 in the Gerd mix, chew, maybe I've got the wrong side of the Tom Middleton as one side I wasn't feeling at all, it could be that Penrose Steps is that one.
― Know how Roo feel (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 26 September 2012 09:23 (eleven years ago) link
or that we disagree. (i can't bring myself to play a magda set, didn't like the tunes she plays then, doubt i'll like them now!)
― Know how Roo feel (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 26 September 2012 09:24 (eleven years ago) link
Yeah, you were talking about Hawkes Groove, which is very Middleton, and very nice: http://mp3.juno.co.uk/MP3/SF467138-01-02-01.mp3
This is Penrose Steps, which is just a very high-concept idea of using the "barper-pole" effect: http://mp3.juno.co.uk/MP3/SF467138-01-01-01.mp3

Is that a Reich sample in that Jaga Jazzist track?
― Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 26 September 2012 10:53 (eleven years ago) link
ah sorry, my bad on that, yeah i just turned off the other one after 5 seconds, rubbish, i agree. nice to name it after kenny hawkes too. i think the WAS clip i linked to earlier might have been mislabelled.
― Know how Roo feel (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 26 September 2012 10:55 (eleven years ago) link
Glad that's all sorted, and glad to hear it's about KH.
-x-post-
To me the track above is somewhere half-way between the Vakula remix of Reich from last year, and and the Portico Quartet album from this year. I can't imagine it working for me on the dancefloor, but maybe I'd need to hear it in the right context.
― Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 26 September 2012 11:03 (eleven years ago) link
…That's Toccato I'm referring to.
lov that vakula rmx of reich

Yeah it was, Penrose Steps didn't sound like that on your link.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 26 September 2012 11:18 (eleven years ago) link
i'm not sure if its a reich sample, id figured it was sthose guys recreating that kind of sound in the studio given the scale of those guys productions as its got the 18 musician sound with guitar counterpoint guitars on top. The original jaga jazzist track has a sort of a norwegian garage-math-jazz-reich vibe to it, MJS have tamed it somewhat

yeah the smallpeople album is great. every single track is solid.
― dsb, Saturday, 13 October 2012 15:50 (eleven years ago) link
That Smallpeople clip is great, haven't heard anything else from the LP but looking forward to it. Ach those funky funky Germans. The STL song is a bit formulaic, but my impression could be limited by my crappy speakers. Andres 'Seasons So Long' is solid quality but the other two seem somewhat uninspired, harking back to the early-noughties lounge house that had me ready to renounce deep house forever.
I like this new direction FaltyDL is headed in, although his BiS mix was wildly inconsistent. He did admit he's not much of a DJ, more of just a producer:

"vatican shadow's ghosts of chechnya LP"
Without knowing anything about it, this already sounds like the most dreary and bleak record ever.
― formerly EDB (ed.b), Tuesday, 30 October 2012 02:22 (eleven years ago) link
no, actually it's danceable. also this is a must have: marcellus pittman's places. I think it's a comp of his past works.
― dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Tuesday, 30 October 2012 03:15 (eleven years ago) link
it's coming up to the season for bleak, austere techno, and i feel like this vatican shadow album might slot neatly alongside silent servant in that regard
― lex pretend, Tuesday, 30 October 2012 09:40 (eleven years ago) link
The Silent Servant album is fantastic. Post-punk influenced techno>>>

xposts: Well, I was just referring to the title, and possible influenced by this hurricane-offshoot weather.
Just now getting around to (last year's) Superlongevity 5. Some really nice tracks I'd liked to have owned in non-mixed form if perlon wasn't making an expensive ltd ed. deal out of the vinyl box set.

The new Terrence Dixon has some very nice bits on it. FACT have been salivating whilst comparing it with Actress and Andy Stott....not sure I agree with that. Anyway, some of the cleaner minimal tracks on the album (particularly 'Tone') are f'ing choice.

He makes industrial sounding techno under the name Bed of Nails. It sounds a bit like Traversable Wormhole and is fairly good

not quite like vatican shadow, but anyone listened to pete swanson's recent ep?
― d-_-b (mh), Wednesday, 31 October 2012 15:26 (eleven years ago) link
Forget bleak and austere, I want to talk about this lush Matthew Dekay & Lee Burridge track "Fur Die Liebe" which I discovered from the Mano Le Tough set linked in the mixes 2012 thread. Currently battling Christian Loeffler for the prize of best Pantha-Du-Prince homage this year.
