There Goes a Tenner was my #21, sigh. It's got so much going on in it.

Amazing - that live vid. Mick Karn, Townshend, Phil Collins and KB stunningly beautiful.

Loo Reading (Capitaine Jay Vee), Tuesday, 28 August 2012 16:03 (eleven years ago) link

That *is* Collins?! I was just chuckling at how unglamorous the band looked.

Kate's top falls off at 3:30 btw, but she carries on like a trooper.

One more then I'm going to break for an hour or so to get something to eat and retrieve a couple of photos.

I'm queueing these up on Spotify as they appear and thinking "yeah I could have voted for that".

A spotify playlist's a thought, I should probably get to work on that.

No non-album tracks yet, I see... I can only really imagine one placing at this point.

An Endless Sky Of Honey appears to only be available in one piece, hence its appearing first for Aerial. If Kate's new to you, please do not be put off by the 42-minute opening track.

A couple of personal photos now. This is the inside of my first computer, who moved on recently: we really did have a deep understanding.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 28 August 2012 17:51 (eleven years ago) link

"The Wedding List" was a song I hadn't heard before this -- it ended up on my ballot.

Love the Director's Cut version of "Deeper Understanding" -- for the life of me, I can't figure out why everyone was so up in arms about the new version. I thought her kid singing through the Auto-Tune was powerful and the Gadd drums were great (as they have been on her last two recordings).

Naive Teen Idol, Tuesday, 28 August 2012 17:53 (eleven years ago) link

Damn - i totally blanked on this one. Would've been on my ballot.

this is such a good time of year to be doing this - it felt very autumnal when i woke up this morning and i definitely associate Kate's music with the feeling of a british autumn... the weather turning colder, days getting shorter and in the past going back to school etc.

Jamie_ATP, Tuesday, 28 August 2012 18:25 (eleven years ago) link

wasn't that the first track she recorded in her new home studio?

the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Tuesday, 28 August 2012 18:27 (eleven years ago) link

One of mine. What a beautiful track.

Loo Reading (Capitaine Jay Vee), Tuesday, 28 August 2012 18:32 (eleven years ago) link

ok - I'll stop with the annoying play by play. Back to work.

on the This Woman's Work box set but that's looooooong out of print

Jamie_ATP, Tuesday, 28 August 2012 18:53 (eleven years ago) link

It really is gorgeous. I had it on the Hounds reissue but I didn't really think it worked there. Alone, though, it's devastating.

That's my little 'un rocking those dungarees btw - I figured that if Bertie gets to appear on Kate's albums, then Ismaelito should get to grace this poll.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 28 August 2012 19:00 (eleven years ago) link

The sample of a truck driving past in this track has always made me scratch my head. It seems random but somehow fits perfectly within the dense aural jungle of the song.

Loo Reading (Capitaine Jay Vee), Tuesday, 28 August 2012 19:06 (eleven years ago) link

Pull Out The Pin was another late victim in my cull to get down to 20 tracks. It was probably my favourite Bush track for a couple of years after the album came out.

Now wishing I had put Under The Ivy even higher than I did. It's a startlingly beautiful song.

Pull Out The Pin way too low.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 28 August 2012 19:38 (eleven years ago) link

"Houdini" was super high on my list. Kind of a perfect example of why "The Dreaming" is so great : Fairlight textures blending seamlessly with organic instruments (including Weber's lovely melancholy basslines) and KB putting her voice into the service of several personalities/mindstates. Outstanding and still awes me to this day, almost 20 something years after first hearing it.

"Pull Out the Pin" and "Babooshka" both potentially dodgy concepts turned into great little stories on the strength of her writing and singing.

If noöne's got anything to say about this one, I give up. It's the most gorgeous.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 28 August 2012 20:46 (eleven years ago) link

I wish I could, but I really find the second disc of Aerial to be very anemic. If Nocturne would have been added to the first disc, Aerial might've been the best thing Kate has ever done.

That being said, happy with how this poll is working out til now :)

Great work with the pictures and all too!

Sebastian (Royal Mermaid Mover), Tuesday, 28 August 2012 20:52 (eleven years ago) link

Great pics Ismael!!

Adore "Sunset" so much.

Have we ever done a Sea of Honey vs a Sky of Honey? Because I think I've always been for Sky.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 28 August 2012 21:00 (eleven years ago) link

one of my favorite songs from Aerial

diamonddave85, Tuesday, 28 August 2012 21:00 (eleven years ago) link

This was my no.2, and I was tempted to put it higher.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 28 August 2012 21:00 (eleven years ago) link

"sunset" and "pull out the pin", two more of my votes. the latter really is one of those songs you feel ONLY kate could pull off - she skirts parody so much, with the vocal treatment and the odd orientalisms and so on, but she takes it so seriously and executes the concept with such focus that you're right there with her.

"sunset" is absolutely gorgeous, it's where aerial starts to become really transcendent - a sky of honey is such an incredible achievement. her use of language on that disc is so satisfying, the way the words and rhymes slot together.

lex pretend, Tuesday, 28 August 2012 21:12 (eleven years ago) link

I feel like I'm only just getting to know it, it's so rewarding on every listen
