63. Thomas Bangalter and Dj Falcon - So Much Love to Give (190 points, 5 votes, 1 number one vote)

Year: 2002

Youtube: http://youtu.be/z7Gg0RdEWQk

Moka, Tuesday, 21 August 2012 21:44 (eleven years ago) link

Earlier on today I stuck on Neighbourhood for the first time in a while - I'd forgotten just how much of a fucking unstoppable groove it has. Good times.
Catching up on a couple of bits just now. Love the vocal on the BoC track. In general I've been finding recently that I enjoy BoC a lot more than I used to.

I Shall Be Re-Released (Mr Andy M), Tuesday, 21 August 2012 21:45 (eleven years ago) link

I think it was here someone once wrote: "So much puke to hurl."

Eric H., Tuesday, 21 August 2012 21:47 (eleven years ago) link

But I kinda like it still.

Eric H., Tuesday, 21 August 2012 21:48 (eleven years ago) link

Oh it's this tune. Yeah I've never really liked it I'm afraid.

I Shall Be Re-Released (Mr Andy M), Tuesday, 21 August 2012 21:49 (eleven years ago) link

Thomas Bangalter is an ace name though.

I Shall Be Re-Released (Mr Andy M), Tuesday, 21 August 2012 21:50 (eleven years ago) link

I mean, I can think of about 8 dozen other filtered tracks I like a lot more.

Eric H., Tuesday, 21 August 2012 21:50 (eleven years ago) link

Larry Heard track passed me by somehow. This is good!

Legendary General Cypher Raige (Gukbe), Tuesday, 21 August 2012 21:53 (eleven years ago) link

Bah! Apparently you people hate joy. "So much love to give" is one of the all time greats. Like being beaten over the head with sunshine.

bert streb, Tuesday, 21 August 2012 21:56 (eleven years ago) link

To much sunshine gives you painful sunburns and skin cancer that makes you DIE!

formerly EDB (ed.b), Tuesday, 21 August 2012 23:02 (eleven years ago) link

Just noticed the results are now coming in. This should be good. I didn't vote in this because I don't really know this stuff, but with my recent increased receptiveness to at least some of it, this should be a good list to check out.

Excellent graphics.

couldn't muster enough time and will to send my ballout, but so far i'm loving this list - prob 6 or 7 in here would definitely place, and there are some things i still have to listen. glad to know there's enough love for 'inflation' to place at 69.

also, props to moka for the graphics. they're lovely.

97. Hatchback - White Diamond (Prins Thomas remix) (159 points, 6 votes)

'White Diamond' is just so perfect, the airy light euphoria makes me feel like I'm floating. Yesterday it struck me just how much White Diamond reminds me of Orbital's Belfast, which has (or at least had, but I don't think it's changed) the same effect on me.

― Le Bateau Ivre, Wednesday, December 17, 2008

Discovered yesterday that the Hatchback album is really good for wandering round the Natural History Museum in London.

― Matt DC, Wednesday, December 17, 2008

i like driving my hatchback to the beach while listening to hatchback. then going for a little windsurf.

Personally I prefer Atol but the appeal of 'Beautiful Life' is undeniable to me. The bass and synths remind me of New Order and the guitar riff that appears near the end (around 6:40 in this video) even sounds like a sample of them.

Moka, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 02:45 (eleven years ago) link

Reminding me of New Order is always a great thing in case I wasnt clear.

Moka, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 02:46 (eleven years ago) link

Beautiful Life is a favourite. I still listen to it on the reg. Also great for running.

agh this is awesome but everything is moving so fast! so much good stuff in here tho, thanks again 2 moka for making this actually happen

akadarbarijava (psychgawsple), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 02:58 (eleven years ago) link

Actually thought "Beautiful Life" would be top 20 but my sense of what is "canon" is pretty off, which is why this poll is pretty exciting for me.

Two of the poppiest Kompakt singles back to back.

Moka, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 03:06 (eleven years ago) link

Looking back at my ballot now. "Beautiful Life" was my number 2, "Minimal" was 23.

Legendary General Cypher Raige (Gukbe), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 03:07 (eleven years ago) link

Yours was one of the last ballots I checked and I was so happy that your ballot helped Gui Boratto place inside the top 100.

Moka, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 03:10 (eleven years ago) link

we will need to spend some time coming up with those comment stacks for the tracks ... the comments are out there!

the late great, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 03:14 (eleven years ago) link

Next track I wouldn't really define as dance but dj's (specially kompakt dj's) loved closing their sets with it. Any wild guess?

this is basically for driving next to a beach at dusk, probably in a really nice car and wearing a suit (seersucker? probably a one-button coat, cut low--no tie; the shoes are the most expensive part of the outfit anyway) with your chick next to you (in a really nice dress, hair up & back) and everything's blowing in the wind

Yeah, I'm not sure how it's EDM. I love it, though, and I think the "Mr. Dan's Mix" is one of the best straight-up pop songs of the 00s.

58. Aeroplane - Whispers (205 points, 6 votes)

Year: 2010
Youtube: http://youtu.be/HTkGXWk4Hbs

What I love about them as original producers - the sense that on every single occasion they're consciously trying to make the most enjoyable record imaginable. And their ability to mix pop-disco and e-transcendence and that sense of wide-eyed wonder without ever really coming over as twee or cloying or annoying. Whispers is my favourite single of this year by several light years.

haha that's cause these song suck >:-(

:DDD

i had 'beautiful life' in my top ten as well (at #9) but i dont have much to say about it its borderline corny i think but 'undeniable' i guess i like it most for its flaws, the way it sounds like the extended car commercials they play before movies now, they way it makes itself up out of its own exhilaration, its sortof ruthless

i had the prins thomas remix of 'white diamond' as my #8 which has the uncanny knack of making the cosmic out of the everyday

Lamp, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 03:30 (eleven years ago) link

I feel like that bad album and the split of The Magician has really killed that brief wave of Aeroplane joy, but "Whispers" is still awesome.

Legendary General Cypher Raige (Gukbe), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 03:32 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah, Beautiful Life is corny. I thought that was the intention?

Moka, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 03:32 (eleven years ago) link

"Beautiful Life" is total hands-in-the-air transcendent cheese but boy does it earn it.

Legendary General Cypher Raige (Gukbe), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 03:33 (eleven years ago) link

The random moments of brilliance in Aeroplane's career are amongst the best things in any genre any decade. There's not that many producers with the same level of manic detail that they have.

Moka, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 03:34 (eleven years ago) link

"Dancing in the moonlight" bit slays.
