Somehow it works for me tonight. I clicked on the link in the Facebook ILX chat thread, instead of typing in a URL.

It works!
This is the default web page for this server.
The web server software is running but no content has been added, yet.

Seriously, I've only been in for two sessions but it's completely easy once you get used to it. You just have to poke at it a bit to see how it works.
― emil.y, Sunday, 1 July 2012 12:29 (eleven years ago) link
and kind of grit your teeth about how horrid it looks
― contenderizer, Sunday, 1 July 2012 16:14 (eleven years ago) link
I... kind of like the look. As I've said before, I prefer clean functionality over any graphics, but... I kind of like the trippy pyramids and strange creatures.
― emil.y, Sunday, 1 July 2012 16:17 (eleven years ago) link
Me and crüt are playing around with it right now, if anyone wants to join in.
― emil.y, Sunday, 1 July 2012 16:32 (eleven years ago) link
what's the "turntable" thing you can load from?
― contenderizer, Sunday, 1 July 2012 16:34 (eleven years ago) link
nm, i'll google it
anyway, my favorite thing about outloud was that you could load from your own files, you didn't have to search on this or that site. this loses that, but the ability to share videos is nice.
― contenderizer, Sunday, 1 July 2012 16:37 (eleven years ago) link
Oh yeah, I miss that ability, totally. This is a different thing, but seeing as we no longer have outloud, it's the best we've got.
― emil.y, Sunday, 1 July 2012 16:40 (eleven years ago) link
Still no word from Michael on outloud yet, btw. It's the weekend, though...maybe he's not on fb at the weekend.
― Johnny Fever, Sunday, 1 July 2012 16:43 (eleven years ago) link
i may be here

Second call for Sunday afternoon rock party?
― Hamster of Legend (J3ff T.), Sunday, 1 July 2012 23:11 (eleven years ago) link
alright, here's the word from Michael:
hey dude. i know, i'm sorrywe're bummed too, but the reality of it is that we recently started getting letters and phone calls from BMI, SESAC, and ASCAP (the music licensing agencies) asking for money to secure licensing, since continuing to operate the site requires broadcast licenses from each agency. way more money than we are capable of coughing up right now, sadly. so at the risk of also getting legal threats for not paying up, we had to take it down for now until we figure something out. i'd like to bring the site back in some fashion, maybe something password resicted or invite only, but i'm not clear on if that would protect us legally either - we'll have to see.

Tis a sad day. Actually, I guess the truly sad day was several weeks ago when it actually went offline, but knowing what happened is also very sad.

What about a new Plug thread, and an "RIP" + lockage for this one?
― Neil Jung (WmC), Wednesday, 4 July 2012 02:57 (eleven years ago) link
I wouldn't lock this thread, but yeah, new one for plug and an RIP in the title would be good.
