(disclaimer: I want to hear all my favorite bands cover the Warriors theme)

nate detritus (natedetritus), Friday, 5 December 2003 04:35 (twenty years ago) link

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 13:29 (nineteen years ago) link

i saw them a month ago at the cure show. thye were good.

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 13:34 (nineteen years ago) link

i still like echoes.

peter smith (plsmith), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 14:42 (nineteen years ago) link

Fabtabulous! Echoes is an absolute dance-rock classic!

"Open Up Your Heart" still sucks, though.

Mr. Snrub, Wednesday, 22 September 2004 14:55 (nineteen years ago) link

i still like "open up your heart".

i really feel like this album is one of the few hypehypehyped albums (wilco, interpol (never liked that one), etc) of the past few years thats survived some time for me.

peter smith (plsmith), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 14:59 (nineteen years ago) link

I liked it enough to defend it to the death, so good on 'em.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 15:06 (nineteen years ago) link

Any bets on what another album will sound like?

mike h. (mike h.), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 15:19 (nineteen years ago) link

I sold this album to my friend for four dollars. It's not very good.

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 15:46 (nineteen years ago) link

HOJL = single of the decade.

The album's flawed but it's still pretty fabulous. From the new songs I've heard, the next one probably isn't going to be as good and they'll probably never come close to matching HOJL, but it'll still be a damn fun album.

The Good Dr. Bill (Andrew Unterberger), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 15:54 (nineteen years ago) link

somebody say something about gogogo airheart? I like the rapture but gogogo does kick their asses, a lot bit. I don't think this is a thread about gogogo airheart kicking rapture ass though.

Brandon Biondo (twinkiebots), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 17:28 (nineteen years ago) link

judging by the live shows the new one will be alot better, at least that's my opinion. each show I've seen over the last year has been a little better and more developed.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 19:26 (nineteen years ago) link

question: i really like Echoes, but is any of their earlier stuff worth getting? was the dfa production thing important to Echoes?

paulhw (paulhw), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 22:04 (nineteen years ago) link

was the dfa production thing important to Echoes?

Yes, BUT the DFA also did the Sub Pop EP and that sounds little like Echoes does.

Vic Funk, Wednesday, 22 September 2004 22:30 (nineteen years ago) link

"Out of the races and on to the tracks" (the track itself) is definately worth getting.

Also i Love "open up your heart" but i couldnt care less about "Sister Saviour"

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 22:32 (nineteen years ago) link

Why do you have to hurt me like this? Does it give you pleasure?

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 22:33 (nineteen years ago) link

The early Mirror EP is pretty good. Not dissimilar to a good Gogogoairheart record.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 22:35 (nineteen years ago) link

Somebody else on here likes Gogogoairheart!

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 22:36 (nineteen years ago) link

i think.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 22:36 (nineteen years ago) link

nice one, Tim.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 22:36 (nineteen years ago) link

the last song on the subpop ep is pretty good too, i have no idea what it's called, it reminds me of thin white rope meets ramblin' jack elliot with missy elliot beatboxing over it.

gogogoairheart is fine, i take it adaml has an aversion to the search function (as do a few of the other Scots on ILX).

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 22:43 (nineteen years ago) link

have their voices improved?

manthony m1cc1o (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 22:52 (nineteen years ago) link

congratulations adam, you are now a scotsman!

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 22:53 (nineteen years ago) link

Fantastic! I will expect some sort of certificate, for tax purposes of course.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 22:54 (nineteen years ago) link

three months pass...
From my friend Mike (a conversation he had at a party last week):
---

Me: Yeah, I use to play drums about ten years ago in Detroit--.

Dude: What was your band?

Me: I was in the Catfish. Not that alternative band, but an old school punk band. We never put out a record or played outside of the city.

Dude: That’s what I do, play drums.

Me: What’s your band?

Dude: The Rapture.

Me: No Really, what’s your band?

Dude: The Rapture.

Me: You’re in The Rapture?

Dude: Yeah.

Me: Okay, be honest with me. How much do you hate “House of Jealous Lovers?”

Dude: No, I like that song.

Me: Come on, is there part of you that’s all, “Goddamn, this song again,” when you’re playing out?

Dude: No, no, I like playing that live. Like, I look forward to it.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 21 January 2005 21:54 (nineteen years ago) link

Good for him! I like that story.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 21 January 2005 21:56 (nineteen years ago) link

Of course he loves it, you'd love it too if you got to wail away on a cowbell. I bet he even calls it "the cowbell song."

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Friday, 21 January 2005 21:57 (nineteen years ago) link

hahaha - awesome story.

peter smith (plsmith), Friday, 21 January 2005 21:57 (nineteen years ago) link

matty plays the cowbell, vito ("the dude") plays the highhat.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 21 January 2005 22:00 (nineteen years ago) link

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 21 January 2005 22:00 (nineteen years ago) link

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Friday, 21 January 2005 22:14 (nineteen years ago) link

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Friday, 21 January 2005 22:17 (nineteen years ago) link

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Friday, 21 January 2005 22:19 (nineteen years ago) link
