i should say i'm inclined not i'm liable, like i said i would rather this be a consensus / community thing rather than just take the reins

where do we stand on remixes?

thank you for creating this, late great. really appreciate it. here's my input:

-"electronic dance" is just too wide of a scope. beside, RA has already done that for us. so I suggest restricting it to techno and house only.

-two weeks deadline is okay.

-10 nominations per person.

and please be as honest as you can. don't write off a track just because it's a mega hit. if you love "who's afraid of detroit?" then go for it.

k but what about ukg? is it house? what about two step? drum and bass? trance?

also why the 10 nomination limit? seems to me limiting votes would be much smarter than limiting candidates

two week limit is fine IMO, should we just say 5/1/2012 (or 1/5 if you're in a barbarian country?)

actually maybe not smarter but just more practical

idea is to spread a wide net and then narrow it, for example prisoneer might know about 25 hard techno tracks the rest of us might have forgotten to list

i like how it went from hugest scope ever in dance music to a relatively dinky scope in dance music

errr house is house and ukg is ukg. and I don't think there's any doubt whether dnb and trance count as house/techno. I mean, really?

sorry, I mean 10 votes per person. about the candidates, do we really have to set it? why don't we just make it free to pick from all house/techno tracks available?

guess what i'm getting at is that if we really want to be inclusive and comprehensive limiting noms seems counterproductive

we want people to think hard about their votes, this preliminary stage should be like "oh yeah what about THAT killer track?!?" not like "oh shit maybe i should hold off on my noms in case i forgot some track or other" or "damn i forgot crazy frog will someone nominate it for me"

i think the best (and most common) voting method is giving a set number of points (50?) to distribute among tracks as you see fit

but yeah i dunno the scope question is a tough one and i'd like to let people like tim and lex who have been very active on dance threads and who often advocate for things like ukg to weigh in on it too

and then there's the question of FRANKENDANCE

different remixes are different tracks on a record so they are separate in terms of both nomination and vote

I don't really get what you mean about nominations and candidates but I'm flexible about it, really. It's the scope that I'm concerned about. I just think that there are countless "top dance tracks" lists already and do we really want to see one more? With only house and techno it just feels more focused and "purer."

The points idea sounds good.

I think the problem with "let's keep it house and techno" is that while it may seem obvious to some that drum & bass or UKG aren't applicable, I don't think the position of uk funky or post-dubstep or electro-house are nearly so clear cut, but I get the impression from durr durr durr that he'd want all of these excluded.

And then, if uk funky is excluded, should we also exclude Dennis Ferrer? And if we have a different position, what's the basis?

This comes down to 'what does durr durr durr (or anyone else) really want out of this poll' - I don't think 'house/techno' is a particularly clear answer.

yes, tim. I want uk funky and post-dubstep excluded, as much as I like both. but I think electrohouse (booka shade, etc) belongs in this poll. as well as Dennis Ferrer. I mean, he's as house as house can be in my ears.

About Dennis Ferrer, I don't understand what's the deal. Yes, maybe his tracks get played by uk funky dj's but his tracks are house, no doubt about it.

i'm also still trying to grasp this tying of ferrer to funky rather than mainstream house archetypes and it isn't happening at all
