If for real no one else is on for Dylan, it would be my pleasure.

If someone earlier subs out for him, I would take Sleater-Kinney.

something of an astrological coup (tipsy mothra), Monday, 9 April 2012 23:49 (twelve years ago) link

those should be:

16. Rolling Stones - rogermexico (finished)

17. The Kinks - C. Grisso/McCain (POLLS NOW OPEN)

improvised explosive advice (WmC), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 00:34 (twelve years ago) link

I'd be willing to do a Sleater-Kinney & offshoots poll.

Raymond Dubious Davies (C. Grisso/McCain), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 01:14 (twelve years ago) link

yesssssssssssssss

or maybe riot grrl in general?

Thoughts? You must have loads. (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 11 April 2012 06:35 (twelve years ago) link

Put me down for The Replacements/Westerberg/et al sometime in 2014.

I dunno. I <heart> S-K more than any other grrl group, but mainly because I haven't really researched further into the genre. I was figuring on doing S-K (about 90 songs) and offshoots/prehistory/posthistory involving Tucker or Brownstein (Excuse 17, Heavens To Betsy, Cadallaca etc.).

Paging Crüt -- ready to start Depeche Mode at the end of this week?

improvised explosive advice (WmC), Monday, 16 April 2012 14:07 (twelve years ago) link

oh i'd be super down w/ a s-k one. xpost

Thoughts? You must have loads. (a hoy hoy), Monday, 16 April 2012 17:12 (twelve years ago) link

yes yes I am ready.

Hoo Nu Cookies (crüt), Wednesday, 18 April 2012 01:03 (twelve years ago) link

Weren't we having an Aphex Twin and a Smashing Pumpkins poll? I'll do any of them if you're interested.

Moka, Thursday, 19 April 2012 05:21 (twelve years ago) link

Pumpkins poll would be awesome, I have this fear it would basically be like me, Ned and Euler though....

Doctor Casino, Thursday, 19 April 2012 15:56 (twelve years ago) link

Someone should do an Australian tracks (or albums? or bands??) poll, cos there could be a good amount a variety without there being a completely insane amount of choice (at least not for a non-specialist like me). Think the results could be quite unpredictable (?)

Friends of Mr Caeiro (NickB), Thursday, 19 April 2012 16:03 (twelve years ago) link

Also a reggae tracks poll could be amazing.

Think Nick Cave would sweep just because of familiarity. Actually a Nick Cave poll would be interesting (I'm not volunteering for this one).

A Flying Nun poll would be pretty goddamn great though.

Reality Check Cashing Services (Elvis Telecom), Thursday, 19 April 2012 20:42 (twelve years ago) link

Combination Aus/NZ poll would be great! Tall Dwarfs, Saints, Scientists, Birthday Party, Clean, Dead C, Flying Nun in general, AC/DC, INXS, Enz/Finn/etc., Radio Birdman, Rose Tattoo...

yuppie bullshit chocolate blogbait (contenderizer), Thursday, 19 April 2012 20:49 (twelve years ago) link

understand that y'all might not want to be lumped togedder like that

"antipodean"

yuppie bullshit chocolate blogbait (contenderizer), Thursday, 19 April 2012 20:50 (twelve years ago) link

They celebrate ANZAC Day, may as well.

pplains, Thursday, 19 April 2012 20:52 (twelve years ago) link

australian poll would be a ton of fun and not at all predictable imo

lathe darkman (some dude), Thursday, 19 April 2012 20:54 (twelve years ago) link

feels like a very timely suggesting this week, too, what with Gotye hitting #1 in the states and a guy from Men At Work passing away

lathe darkman (some dude), Thursday, 19 April 2012 21:07 (twelve years ago) link

and some talk of a John Farnham poll on the Stones thread too

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 19 April 2012 21:08 (twelve years ago) link

There's also the Avalanches, Kylie Minogue, Bee Gees, the Church, Radio Birdman, the Triffids, the Go-Betweens, Dead Can Dance, the Necks...

Friends of Mr Caeiro (NickB), Thursday, 19 April 2012 21:13 (twelve years ago) link

Australia could easily have its own poll, but I'm not sure NZ could...it would be more fruitful to poll them together.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 19 April 2012 21:16 (twelve years ago) link

also it would hilariously make some people really mad to do that

lathe darkman (some dude), Thursday, 19 April 2012 21:18 (twelve years ago) link

^ this :D

yuppie bullshit chocolate blogbait (contenderizer), Thursday, 19 April 2012 21:23 (twelve years ago) link

^ cosigning.

Personal preference would be a separate Church poll but I'm that crazy of a fan. Too bad I'd be the only one voting in a Saints/Ed Kuepper poll.

Doctor Casino, Friday, 20 April 2012 03:00 (twelve years ago) link

ugh, shd have img tagged that whatever

anyway i would vote an all Men At Work/Whitlams ballot but it could be a fun poll!

Doctor Casino, Friday, 20 April 2012 03:01 (twelve years ago) link

so should I wait for the Kinks results to finish rolling out before I start the Depeche Mode poll?

Hoo Nu Cookies (crüt), Saturday, 21 April 2012 23:10 (twelve years ago) link

Not necessarily -- there's usually been a day or two of overlap. I hope you get a good turnout! I don't know diddly about DM myself.

improvised explosive advice (WmC), Saturday, 21 April 2012 23:17 (twelve years ago) link

Can I claim an Outkast poll?

hologram ned raggett (The Reverend), Saturday, 21 April 2012 23:30 (twelve years ago) link

Sure, you're in at 55. I'll add you next time I post the whole list. I don't want to post the whole thing too often -- makes scrolling through it all obnoxious.

I might go under the hood one of these days and edit out the long list in posts more than a month old.

improvised explosive advice (WmC), Saturday, 21 April 2012 23:53 (twelve years ago) link

rev that would be p fun

Thoughts? You must have loads. (a hoy hoy), Sunday, 22 April 2012 06:53 (twelve years ago) link

i'm Australian and would be totally cool with Aus and NZ being lumped together for a poll. in fact, i think it would work out well.

charlie h, Sunday, 22 April 2012 07:31 (twelve years ago) link

And after that, we can do poll of all music by Canadians

Lee626, Sunday, 22 April 2012 15:14 (twelve years ago) link

Bee Gees?

Naive Teen Idol, Sunday, 22 April 2012 15:37 (twelve years ago) link

I would totally vote in a Bee Gees poll. Good to read Robin Gibb's health improving.

Lee626, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 00:42 (twelve years ago) link

NTI, are you volunteering for Bee Gees or hoping someone else steps forward?

improvised explosive advice (WmC), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 02:40 (twelve years ago) link

I just did a bunch of edits and post deletions to make this thread a lot easier to scroll through in case anyone cares about rereading it. Where it was just the master list, I've deleted the post, and where there was other chat, I've edited the list out. I didn't start messing with it until posts from August, when the list started getting long and unwieldy.

improvised explosive advice (WmC), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 03:34 (twelve years ago) link

NTI, are you volunteering for Bee Gees or hoping someone else steps forward?

I would -- but I'm not sure I know enough of their post-breakup or post disco stuff to do it.

Naive Teen Idol, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 00:11 (twelve years ago) link

i wouldn't have time to coordinate a bee gees poll, but somebody needs to do it.

flesh, the devil, and a wolf (wolf) (amateurist), Wednesday, 25 April 2012 02:27 (twelve years ago) link

also for dylan we should probably list the top 100, not top 50.

Ditto disco.

This is my feeling as well.

― flesh, the devil, and a wolf (wolf) (amateurist), Tuesday, April 24, 2012 9:28 PM

I agree with this, and ditto Miles. I'll probably expand ballots to 30 tracks for him and results to 75-80.

improvised explosive advice (WmC), Wednesday, 25 April 2012 03:44 (twelve years ago) link

i think that for the bee gees it'd be fun to allow gibb bros songs recorded by folks other than the BGs. for dylan that would become a mess really quickly, though.

flesh, the devil, and a wolf (wolf) (amateurist), Wednesday, 25 April 2012 04:25 (twelve years ago) link

and also Andy imo

Lee626, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 06:58 (twelve years ago) link

can someone re-upload the spreadsheet template FFM made? the megaupload + sendspace links are both down.
