"Feelin' Groovy" will win/lose this, and I will feel very sad.
― clemenza, Monday, 26 March 2012 03:36 (twelve years ago) link
eh, toss up between "59th st bridge song" and "call me al". both grating, but goofily appealing if you can get past that. don't get the hate for the rest. both "parsely, sage, museum, etcet" and "hazy shade" are GR888!
― Fozzy Osbourne (contenderizer), Monday, 26 March 2012 03:40 (twelve years ago) link
went for the groovy, sorry clemenza
hello lamppost go fuckyourself = ILX not feelin' groovy
― Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 26 March 2012 03:41 (twelve years ago) link
buncha jerks
Yeah, "Groovy." I don't hate it, but it's only slightly better than "Red Rubber Ball."
Almost voted for "Duncan" just because I'm so puzzled that it's #4, but if it had been in the bottom 20 I wouldn't have a problem with it.
Best song missing entirely from the Top 60: "The Coast." Shoulda voted.
― Hideous Lump, Monday, 26 March 2012 03:52 (twelve years ago) link
"red rubber ball", otoh, is wonderful. one of the dumbest omission from my ballot.
― Fozzy Osbourne (contenderizer), Monday, 26 March 2012 03:56 (twelve years ago) link
"Hey lamppost, whatcha knowin"
However, I voted for Sound of Silence because it's drecky, self-serious college litmag poetry.

Not gonna vote for a worst here, but "Graceland" is a baffling (to me) winner of the og poll.

dr.
59th st was also a camp song for me. Fast triplet da's are awkward for a chorus of 11-year-olds to sing.

I came here to vote for "Loves Me Like a Rock", but didn't find it so I went for "The Obvious Child" instead.

ive been listening to the songs from the poll that i wasnt intimately familiar with and lets just say that my fondness for s&g hasnt really bloomed during this period of exploration
― lag∞n, Monday, 26 March 2012 16:02 (twelve years ago) link
re "hazy shade of winter": i find the naivete sort of endearing. a young man in an act of self-important "wisdom" trying to say something serious abt what it must like to be old. young people do this a lot, especially the poetic ones, but they seldom attach their instructive musings to such glorious music.

its a cool song dont get me wrong, the silliness works
― lag∞n, Monday, 26 March 2012 16:06 (twelve years ago) link
its a p exciting song tbh
the 12-string guitar riff is like a perfect Rubber Soul/Revolver knockoff

in fairness, I was in a concert yesterday where we sang this (note: that is one of my old college groups, not the group I sing with now) so basically anybody doing anything polyrhythmic with counterpoint and stacking vocal harmonies is basically going to get a vigorous defending from me unless of course the ppl doing it are terrible
