Didn't they do Gary Young "Plant Man". That video follows me through life. So I could very well be imagining it.

Carey (Carey), Sunday, 13 April 2003 20:22 (twenty-one years ago) link

Alien Sex Fiend.... "This video is pretty cool but the sound sucks. Turn down the volume. 'I'm a dead guy... I like to... eat people's brains out." Or something like that (it's been a long time). Classic.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Sunday, 13 April 2003 20:37 (twenty-one years ago) link

I seem to recall a great one with Grim Reaper's "See You in Hell". Siegbran can you verify?

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Sunday, 13 April 2003 20:47 (twenty-one years ago) link

another fave b&b moment: video for some sludgy metal band comes on (i think it was crowbar). singer of said metal band starts grunting. b&b: "i think he's constipated" "yeah, i think he's trying to take a dump" "taking a dump onstage is cool"

I think that was Perl Jam's Jeremy, wunnit?

jm (jtm), Sunday, 13 April 2003 20:50 (twenty-one years ago) link

They sure did do Plantman. And it was good.

Prude (Prude), Sunday, 13 April 2003 20:52 (twenty-one years ago) link

if they dissed PJ like that, then that would be the greatest b&b episode evah!

and yes, there was one with grim reaper's "see you in hell." i think butthead flung a spoonful of mashed potatoes at the TV screen for that one.

Tad (llamasfur), Sunday, 13 April 2003 20:57 (twenty-one years ago) link

They ended up doing two Grim Reaper videos! They were the bete noire of the duo -- one started up and both Beavis and Butthead started screaming in pain.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 13 April 2003 21:51 (twenty-one years ago) link

God I miss this show

James Blount (James Blount), Sunday, 13 April 2003 21:56 (twenty-one years ago) link

The funniest thing is that it envisions a world where these videos actually get played. Like one day you could randomly flip on MTV and there would be a Grim Reaper video playing!

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Sunday, 13 April 2003 21:59 (twenty-one years ago) link

there was such a world once, mr. diamond. it was called "headbanger's ball," circa 1987 and pre-thrash metal (when grim reaper would have played thereon).

b&b also slammed FZ and "you are what you is," if memory serves me correctly.

Tad (llamasfur), Sunday, 13 April 2003 22:02 (twenty-one years ago) link

another What Was That Video RFI: they watched some ghastly thing with thunderbolts, a little asian girl holding a flower, a guy who looked like Santana dipped in dork sauce, lots of goofy effects, five bands members walking down a hill, etc. etc. It was HORRIFICALLY cheesy.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 13 April 2003 22:04 (twenty-one years ago) link

Faith No More - "Epic"

James Blount (James Blount), Sunday, 13 April 2003 22:06 (twenty-one years ago) link

ok, it was like that except everybody in it was a decade older.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 13 April 2003 22:07 (twenty-one years ago) link

i remember that one too! wasn't it someone from the Scorpions?

Tad (llamasfur), Sunday, 13 April 2003 22:10 (twenty-one years ago) link

"dork sauce"????

Evan (Evan), Sunday, 13 April 2003 22:42 (twenty-one years ago) link

Brewed from the finest dork essence.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 14 April 2003 00:56 (twenty-one years ago) link

Their commentary during "Funk Dat" was pretty hilarious.

Vinnie (vprabhu), Monday, 14 April 2003 02:04 (twenty-one years ago) link

other favorite memories.

Bobby Brown's "Humpin' Around": the guys dance for a while, then note that the girl really WANTS IT.

Pavement's "Cut Your Hair": These guys are WHITE...and this is WHITE guy music. Beavis later comments that this video is trying too hard. In a really funny video the cat would have come out of his BUTT.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 14 April 2003 02:13 (twenty-one years ago) link

I Hate Rock and Roll by the Jesus and Marychain was played, I cannot remember what they had to say about it.

One of my favorite things about that show was when albums were credited as Brownies And Lemonade. I find it hugely entertaining because when I was 15 I spent a few weeks hunting high and low for a really obscure JAMC EP called Brownies And Lemonade. To this day I have not been able to find that ep anywhere...

Mike Taylor (mjt), Monday, 14 April 2003 02:18 (twenty-one years ago) link

and strangely enough, you can find exactly the same tracks on I Hate Rock n' Roll.

Mike Taylor (mjt), Monday, 14 April 2003 02:19 (twenty-one years ago) link

I Hate Rock and Roll by the Jesus and Marychain was played, I cannot remember what they had to say about it.

Butthead keeps saying that JaMC is a cool name and Beavis thinks differently. I believe Butthead gets kicked in the nads.

jm (jtm), Monday, 14 April 2003 03:48 (twenty-one years ago) link

as in...

"n-n-n-n-no way Butthead. That's not cool!"

...like it's sacreligous of something

jm (jtm), Monday, 14 April 2003 03:49 (twenty-one years ago) link

This has nothing to do with the video commentary, but I have to say that the funniest B&B episode ever is the one where Beavis thinks that he's pregnant. I watched this again about 2 years ago and I was crying.

Wow what a great thread idea and here's a suggestion for your compilation: Scatman.

JP Albin (John Paul Albin), Monday, 14 April 2003 20:35 (twenty-one years ago) link

and also Ween's "Freedom of '76".

JP Albin (John Paul Albin), Monday, 14 April 2003 20:37 (twenty-one years ago) link

Eddie Money's "Shakin'" is a hilarious video by itself, but having Beavis and Butthead note how cool it is that he can make that opening guitar sound with his mouth makes it even better.

I was really sad that they stopped making new episodes *right before* they would've (hopefully) gotten to Coolio's "Too Hot." Victims of HIV in that one dissolve into dust. Hilariously cheesy, etc.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Thursday, 6 July 2006 01:01 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm partial to B&B's response to Winger's "Seventeen":

"These guys live on the edge"
"Yeah -- the edge of wuss cliff!"

John Fredland (jfredland), Thursday, 6 July 2006 01:04 (seventeen years ago) link

b&b also slammed FZ and "you are what you is," if memory serves me correctly.

Yeah, they changed the channel and watched another video, then changed it back and said something like, "This crap is STILL on?"

One day I will get round to downloading them all off BitTorrent.

Yep, 'twas licensing/royalty issues which have kept many of the vids out of the DVD releases. But the boxes now being released (The Mike Judge Collection - vols. 1 and 2 already out, vol. 3 (final one) coming next month) each have 10-15 vids amended to them as special features (i.e. not in the context of the episodes). Madonna let 'em include "Secret" on this one. Good stuff.

the beard episode...so classic

latebloomer's napkin (latebloomer), Thursday, 6 July 2006 16:22 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, the beard episode is probably the hardest I've ever laughed at tv

Also, the time they watched Madonna's "Erotica" was hilarious

They also should have liked Accept, though this video and Udo's diminutive appearance makes even fans like me giggle...

xp Maybe they're watching AMTV, hmm?

billstevejim, Saturday, 5 February 2011 00:04 (thirteen years ago) link

two weeks pass...

The new show, which debuts later this year, will be very familiar to fans of the Nineties original. "They'll be self-contained segments with the boys in different situations like they used to be," Toffler says. "But this time around, they'll watch Jersey Shore, UFC matches and user-generated videos from YouTube, in addition to music videos." All of the programming will be displayed on the duo's TV, even if it comes from YouTube — "like silly videos of cats playing music."

"It will be much more viral this time around," MTV president Van Toffler says. "We're going to plant seeds of the characters throughout social-media networks like Facebook and Twitter, in addition to traditional programming on television and, potentially, in theaters."

My favourite bits of Beavis & Butthead 'commentary':

1. When 'Tomorrow' by Silverchair comes on and Beavis sings "MORE THAN A FEELING!" as the drums kick in.

2. Where Beavis hyperventilates himself and suddenly goes all Pitchfork Media during a video of 'Blind' by Korn.
