the '05 one? i can upload to dropbox

max, Sunday, 23 October 2011 00:37 (thirteen years ago) link

Harvey in interview is awesome. I remember thinking how sound he was when mentioning not wanting to play in London because it's full of beardo hipsters waiting for him to play the wrong song and when he mixes acknowledging fucking in such a laid back, off the cuff manner.

'05 warmup set was what made me a harvey superfan. i know the sarcastic disco mix is more influential or w/e but for whatever reason sonic disco 1 was the one where his style clicked for me

even with his warning that it's more of a psychedelic freakout dance kind of thing, I still wasn't quite prepared. Definitely wild. Is his "recorded at this gentleman's club with rare vintage equipment" shit for real? Mythbuilding?

andrew m., Wednesday, 29 February 2012 14:55 (twelve years ago) link

take this with a huge grain of salt b/c, yknow, it came from the RA comments, but somebody was saying that they thought there was a 90% chance that "gentlemen's club" meant "harvey's living room". the only reason i even mention something from the RA comments is because of the mild possibility that this person actually knows harvey

psychgawsple, Wednesday, 29 February 2012 18:33 (twelve years ago) link

ain't nothin wrong with a little harvey mythbuilding, of course

andrew m., Wednesday, 29 February 2012 19:01 (twelve years ago) link

in all fairness, harvey's living room actually is a notorious LA gentleman's club with rare vintage equipment

the late great, Wednesday, 29 February 2012 19:10 (twelve years ago) link

of course

This coming weekend I'm playing at Terry Richardson's afterparty for his first LA exhibition at Oh Wow gallery.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 29 February 2012 22:59 (twelve years ago) link

i have a goddamn google alert set up for "dj harvey" and "london"

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 29 February 2012 22:59 (twelve years ago) link

so do you have to be on a guest list to get into one of his LA parties, or

althea and (donna rouge), Wednesday, 29 February 2012 23:04 (twelve years ago) link

Then it's off to Europe. "The management" are cooking up something for London at some point and I can't wait.

thoughts on the new Locussolus?

http://soundcloud.com/international-feel/sets/locussolus-berghain-telephone/

"Berghain" is pretty huge I think, especially the part around 5:20 where the low bass synth plays those little riffs. dope.

"Telephone" is just ok.

dmr, Tuesday, 26 June 2012 21:53 (twelve years ago) link

I take it back, Telephone is cool too in its own way. I like the vocal. For two tracks on the same single they each have a really different feel.

yeah totally, he's got really original opinions about stuff.

he's generally the only good interview subject on BiS ever bcz he's so effusively genial, counteracts Sweeney's hesitancy and giggling

one of the greatest conversationalists i've ever had the pleasure with

♆ (gr8080), Wednesday, 27 June 2012 04:11 (twelve years ago) link

His interviews are always great. Even this one is good despite the interviewer being a dreadful human being:

Harvey's just got such a supreme voice hasn't he?

he talked for an entire show! also, genial? he just sounded like your standard inferiority complex british dj to me.

Know how Roo feel (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 27 June 2012 08:49 (twelve years ago) link

He's been on a few times, sometimes talking more than others. The one yr probably thinking of though I rly enjoyed how he got so carried away talking to Tim that he had to change records as they'd become complete beds!

There are so many BiSes where Tim's playing a CD someone's sent in, embrace the variation maaan

the hat's filthy lesson (sic), Wednesday, 27 June 2012 09:06 (twelve years ago) link

the talking in general is awful. apart from pat mahoney, he was funny.

Know how Roo feel (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 27 June 2012 09:35 (twelve years ago) link

if your radio show sets had a history of showing up as $30 bootleg CDs in Japan you might try and find creative ways to discourage that practice too ;)

i don't get this at all, but i'm American so

♆ (gr8080), Wednesday, 27 June 2012 16:29 (twelve years ago) link

I don't really like the interviews on BIS either but Harvey is one of the better ones

dmr, Wednesday, 27 June 2012 16:32 (twelve years ago) link

cdr of harvey talking goes for $20 in japan iirc
