This double CD would've been pure fire, enough to move all the attention off wannabe rappers 50something and The Ga(y)me and bring Mega the fame and glory he rightfully deserves.

Thomas, what I've heard of Shadow's album isn't great (altho I probably need to listen to it more) but it's only partly because of his beats; the other problem is that the rappers on it are spitting mediocre lines. "Three Freaks" isn't bad, though.

The instrumentals sound sort of generally mediocre--it feels like Shadow's still in 1997 or something (not that that's necessarily a bad thing, but I already own Endtroducing, not to mention the RJD2/Diplo/whoever albums that rip it off. So why do I need to hear him rip off himself again?)

max (maxreax), Friday, 30 June 2006 21:58 (seventeen years ago) link

Haven't Shadow's DJ sets been pretty much nothing but crunk & hyphy for the past four years?

Also, AZ is clearly the shit--possibly only second to Ghostface as far as still relevant NY vets. "Never Change" and several tracks from AWOL are tops.

Thoughts on the new Snoop single, the last half of which I just heard on KDAY? I liked it. I think it's called "Vato." Neptunes production ("Skateboard P" is heard at the end)? Good chorus, though.

"Run, motherfuckers, run
Duck motherfuckers, duck."

today on http://www.paperthinwalls.com/singlefiles/item?id=40 Sterling Clover on some appropriately unstable " 'global hip-hop' " and some subway (car-to-car)loose jointjamz too (that last is id=118). And yours truly on let's-call-it-grime Tolcha, Berlin-based collective, featuring some UK and US rappers; their album is one of the best of any kind of music I've heard this year (id=26). Featuring MP3s of all these.

i just picked up the jr writer album out of curiosity and it's pretty good. or half-good, anyway. some of it drags, predictably, but there's some pretty hot stuff on it. i think he works best on the harder cuts, he has trouble really riding the slinkier beats -- tends to sort of just rhyme straight through them.

only great thing I've heard lately is the new DOUBLE CD mixtape from Chingo Bling, who just got his culo signed by Arista. first disc is called "Everybody Wants Him...But Who Can Afford Him?" and second disc is "America's Faborite Wetback: The Mextape." it's funny and Houston-riffic, on one he tells a girl to shave her chocha because 'damn, I ain't vote for bush"

also the single, "Do the Lasso" (with two D4L guys) is pretty great, he rhymes lasso with el paso and hassle and asshole

"To everyone curious about the Game and Ras Kass beef well its on. Last night Ras and j211 were at club element. Game invited Ras to his table; Ras clearly wanted no part of that. So Game felt disrespected, later that night Game once again so anxious to have Ras be his friend approached Ras and j211,asked Ras if he could get him a drink and holler at him for a second, Ras told game to get out of his face cause he did not want any associations with Game, Ras then turned his back on Game, that's when the **** started. Game like a coward sucker punched Ras with a bottle in the face, all along j211 was going at it with a black wall street affiliate. Game tried to knock Ras out but could not. After the incident the clubs security got in between and broke the altercation up, escorted Ras out along with j211 through the back way when game and his entourage fled the scene but as they did Ras saw Game driving by and as they both looked at one another, Ras shouted thank u cause now u officially gave me and re up a reason to smash on you and the wack wall street. Ras suffered minor injuries just a slight bruise in his eye area. No longer than 10 minutes after Game drove off like a coward unknown re up members arrived to the scene. When asked about the whole thing Ras laughed and said he knew Game was a ''*****'' but not to that extent i mean even when he had no guts to do it in front of my face he still could not succeed in bringing me down but then again what can u expect from a one time male stripper who got his heart broken on "Change of Heart" and now is running around thinking hes a gangster just cause he got tatoos,***** is all that is,lets not forget this closet fag got robbed and shot with his own gun, enough said! "

If that's true, Game is even dumber than I thought.

"A source (within the Black Wall Street camp) has confirmed to HHNLive.com that The Game and Ras Kass were involved in an altercation last night in Los Angeles. The incident took place at an unamed L.A. club. Game reportedly approached Ras Kass to confront him about his track "King of The West" and specifically about references in the song that Game felt were directed towards his son and Game's position in the west coast Hip-Hop industry. They exchanged words. Ras proceeded to tell Game "I'm not taking back what I said. I'm still standing right here". Game proceeded to knock out Ras Kass sending him flying to the floor."

Ras Kass, The Game Fight In Los Angeles Nightclub
By Nolan Strong

West coast rappers Ras Kass and The Game squared off in a physical confrontation last night (Sept. 14) at a Los Angeles club.

Both of the internationally respected West coast rappers were in club Element, when Game confronted Ras Kass over the lyrics to the song "Caution," a song Ras Kass recorded over a year ago.

"Get a thousand tattoos and won't raise ya gun / so when you get merked I'ma raise ya son"

The lyrics to the song sparked the confrontation between the two men.

"The ni**a tried to jump me 30 to 2, yet I'm alive and chillin' my sweater is still white and all my jewelry intact," Ras Kass told AllHipHop.com in a statement. "Game is a 'Change of Heart,' stripping, fake-ass blood who sold some records riding Dr Dre's shirt tails. I guess he thought this would help him sell some more records. I was so unfazed by it all that I went up to his car afterwards and challenged him right there. Game is no match for me physically or lyrically."

Game told AllHipHop.com that he never had a problem with Ras Kass until the rapper dissed him on the track.

He also disputed Ras Kass' account of the confrontation.

"Aint nobody hit that dude but me, he's crazy talking about 30 people," Game told AllHipHop.com. "I never had beef and never met Ras Kass, unless it was a quick exhange saying hello. He talked about my son by name. You can say what you want about me, but what does my son got to do with it? I seen the n***a in the club. I walked up to him in the club and it was my mans birthday, so I didn't want to mess up his party. When the lights came on, at the end I asked him about the freestyle. He said it wasn't nothing, but he started in on that 'it's whatever I'm Ras Kass and punched him in the face before he could finish."

According to representatives for Ras Kass, he has no intentions on continuing the feud.

"He can sell records on his own dime," Ras Kass said alluding to Game's upcoming album The Doctor's Advocate.

"I don't benefit me to mess with these kinds of small cats," Game said, adding that he would not be responding to Ras Kass lyrically either.

"Ras Kass' career is over," Game said. "I ended it with that one punch last night."
