hey, i wasn't trying to be snide or an asshole above, sorry if it came off that way.

also, this sort of 'new genre' speak kind of makes me cringe. it started with slowed dutch house (with some awesome samples thrown on often, yes). DJs have been doing stuff like this at parties forever. spinning UK tribal and hard techno at similar BPMs is equally WO PARTY TIME, in my personal DJing experience.

in the end, though, i'm just happy that more people are digging this sound.

Dillon's "Masta Blasta" went over huge when it was dropped at the last Moombahton Massive in DC - there were clearly a lot of people in the audience that knew it well and were already freaking out during the intro.

The whole of the Nadia Oh album is really good, fun in a party-girl trash pop way.

I think "No Bueno" really works as a song because her plain, flat singing conveys the resigned sadness of a girl who can't stop herself from falling into a doomed relationship, and the way she strains her voice is her pleading to her own sense of hopelessness.

It's inevitable, though as with serious, moody versions of big beat it might end up being classified as something else.

Munchi's "Hope" maybe fits this category.

yeah generally a good amount of the moombahsoul stuff is in that direction, a good number of the tracks from Heartbreak and some from Munchi. Some of the new tracks in progress Nadastrom dropped last month were really dubbed out and dark with much more of a techno sound palette.

I really like that Munci track, even if it is very "2011 vocal samples" x "moombahton" obvious.

I still haven't found any great compilations beyond Blow Your Head. There's a few out there on blogs but I find them a bit too cheesy and based on moombahing a current/kitsch-yesteryear hit, which doesn't do a lot for me. I get this stuff is meant to be fun and partyish but does it have to be so simplistic and obvious all the time?

I'm liking this deep moombahton mix. Still haven't heard much of any sort in the style since what I've had mostly hasn't quite done it. (Maybe there is too much reliance on moombahton remix of songs from other genres I don't particularly like.)
