it's like you have perfect recall of every capital city but are somehow repping for like the capital of wales as the world's finest city. so much detail but like ... pumpernickel doesn't deserve just more formal credit than the montreal bagel? I would need just the most emotive backstory to understand it punching above its Actually Just A Small Bagel weight. I feel like I would even use your bold, impulsive ranking system, its broad church, to toast (ha ha) the maligned demotic breads you put in the second ten; like shitty sliced whole wheat is good when you need to be full, or is a canvas for soup; sliced white is good when it gummily forms to the contours of its filling.

enjera probably has to be its own thread

mustread guy (schlump), Tuesday, 21 January 2014 07:01 (ten years ago) link

I get insomnia and spend a lot of time looking at the ceiling, ranking breads and eggs.

pretty krulls make glaives (flamboyant goon tie included), Tuesday, 21 January 2014 07:34 (ten years ago) link

also: lists

pretty krulls make glaives (flamboyant goon tie included), Tuesday, 21 January 2014 07:35 (ten years ago) link

Sliced whole wheat is probably underrated on this list when it comes to "accompanying squash soup" or "as a scoop for pate" but considering its bus-stop ubiquity I ranked it lower than the far less edible (but more easily avoided) itty bitty black bread salmon rounds.

Injera is clammy, sour corpse bread that cools too quickly on the table and absorbs liquid too readily to be used as a vehicle for anything. I would rather eat food off a wet paper towel (usually I just ask for rice instead)

pretty krulls make glaives (flamboyant goon tie included), Tuesday, 21 January 2014 07:42 (ten years ago) link

Also New York bagels are just circular bread. Montreal bagels are fleshy, smoky, honey-boiled perfection, responsible for the fullness of Montreal bottoms.
