Look Enrique, the Big Society means some of us have a tough old week of putting out each other's bins and having to buy up forests and stuff. Come Saturday we have no energy to be riding around in open-top cars drinking Moet. All we want to do is sit in our hospital beds and cry and cry and cry. So enough sarkiness from you.

a radiohead album full of 8-minute songs runs a very high risk of being my album of the year, and I'm not ashamed to say that

You do realise that "really long songs" isn't actually any kind of guarantee that they'll be good?

Matt DC, Tuesday, 15 February 2011 10:22 (thirteen years ago) link

This newspaper edition is basically going to be Radiohead's Thick As A Brick right?

seminal fuiud (NickB), Tuesday, 15 February 2011 10:23 (thirteen years ago) link

The design of all three of those is so well suited to the respective bands. Will frankly be disappointed if Radiohead don't recreate the whole of the Observer, complete with all the supplements.

I for one am looking forward to Colin Greenwood's cookery column. Maybe the drummer could write an inane opinion piece about the diplomatic minefield of only sending out wedding invites through Facebook.

Tom Waits' Heart Attack & Vine is another obvious one of these. No matter how much extra stuff they add, it's kind of a played out idea already.

One of the few things we know about this album is that the artwork won't actually be a newspaper, dudes.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 15 February 2011 12:04 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah it that would be a daft assumption to make about something called a newspaper album that is made of many large sheets of paper and comes in a plastic bag.

I'm convinced it'll be like McSweeny's... seriously, how many pieces of art? Held together with what?

I think it's highly unlikely to be a traditional newspaper in the form of most of those album covers though, especially given what we already know about the cover. It might refer to lyrical content as well.

^ wouldn't be that surprised if it turned out to be a bit like this with records in it

McSweeney's looks beautiful. What is it precisely? Want to subscribe to it.

Moka, Tuesday, 15 February 2011 12:13 (thirteen years ago) link

I don't know what you guys are on about, the cover art is fantastic and hopefully indicates what the album is like.

It looks Animal Collective to me. Sort of an In Rainbows version of MPP with Thom Yorke on vocals?

Umm, I think that's my glass. (laser precise purpose maker era), Tuesday, 15 February 2011 12:16 (thirteen years ago) link

It's Dave Eggers' quarterly literary magazine based in San Francisco. It has the pretty cool idea of changing format with each issue. I love the newspaper one, you can still track it down on line.

Nice! I was aware it was some sort of magazine but was impressed at seeing the newspaper format. A shame it's not a real, monthly or quarterly newspaper thing.

i think it might just mean "suitable for lining the cat's litterbox with"

Youtube tracklist is fan made.

Moka, Tuesday, 15 February 2011 13:43 (thirteen years ago) link

I like the way Vice has two intros on their made up review. That's something that ruined HTTT and In Rainbows for me is the awkward sequencing where the first two songs sound like first tracks.

dentarthurdent (dog latin), Tuesday, 15 February 2011 13:54 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah, 2+2=5 and Sit Down Stand Up are both good tunes, but fairly similar structurally.

Xpost if radiohead got together with McSweeneys to do something together I would pay more than £30 for it. I spend enough on them separately as it is.

I ask for a truce with the newspaper album pics until the actual album gets released.

Moka, Tuesday, 15 February 2011 14:41 (thirteen years ago) link

(1) Thom farting
(2) Jonny farting
(3) Phil farting
(4) Colin farting
(5) Ed farting
(6) Thom and Jonny farting in turns
(7) The whole band farting at once
(8) Lift

The last one was on XL.

Mark G, Tuesday, 15 February 2011 16:29 (thirteen years ago) link

The amount of not so subtle changes in the cover's type is leading me to believe this might not be the actual cover... maybe it's more like a teaser of the final product.
