one of the most sonically gorgeous tracks i heard all year

― ciderpress, Thursday, 3 February 2011 19:51 (7 minutes ago)

yes and quite possibly :)

I really want to check that Gonjasufi album out a lot! How did it do? (I'm gonna go check anyways...)

ellj versus deej (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 3 February 2011 20:00 (thirteen years ago) link

Gonjasufi did terribly - only got about two votes. People I respect like it but I never got around to hearing it.

emil.y, Thursday, 3 February 2011 20:02 (thirteen years ago) link

Oh no, it got four. Sorry.

emil.y, Thursday, 3 February 2011 20:02 (thirteen years ago) link

Btw "Sex Intelligent"+remix are the best songs on Love King anyone who feels differently can jump off a fucking cliff. :P

'panties to the side' is the only thing ruining the flow of the album imo

still not as good as Yamaha tho.

^^^

this is why i love the love king and why it deserves such high placement, imo. i fw all these tracks. it's got it's ups and downs, but there's nothing i'd straight up cut from the album. though i voted for "yamaha" and do honestly love that song, i only did so because i knew it was the ILX pick. personally, i prefer "sex intelligent", "FILA", "abyss", "turnt out", and even (i admit it) "panties to the side".

¯\(°_°)/¯ i can't help the way god made me

normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Thursday, 3 February 2011 20:04 (thirteen years ago) link

^^^ first four lines there = quotes from different ppl ITT. sorry not to make that more clear.

normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Thursday, 3 February 2011 20:04 (thirteen years ago) link

Ha. My #1, John Grant, got only one other vote and that was a #1 too. In quality vs quantity terms that's quite something.

Contenderizer, I'm pretty stoked that Phantom Tollbooth made the footnotes here :)

I think I'm gonna listen to Memoirs of an Imperfect Angeland use that as a way into Terius--listening to the 3 Dream albums after that & then the Electrik Red album...

don't know when I'm going to get around to doing that though, have a pretty full listening plate already...

ellj versus deej (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 3 February 2011 20:18 (thirteen years ago) link

That's by far the worst album he's produced.

The Reverend, Thursday, 3 February 2011 20:23 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah but Obsessed was my one of my favorite songs of 2009...

ellj versus deej (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 3 February 2011 20:31 (thirteen years ago) link

YELA! BIG BOI! :DDDDDDDDD

Have that Lindstrom record, will check eventually.

:DDDDDDDDDDDD you guys, ty for "burying" Kanye at 7.

APHG could be something I like but I can't past that UGLY fucking cover.

LJ- Listen to Baduizm and Mama's Gun. They are more trad* than the New Emrykah records but maybe even better.

*Trad in the same way that The-Dream is trad. Understanding the box to really be able to think outside it sorta thing.

if there is a King Kenny, apparently he is huge into slapstick. (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 3 February 2011 20:32 (thirteen years ago) link

I couldn't get on board with Badu till Worldwide Underground - that was the path to New Amerykah Part 1 for me.

we had a powercut about 5 seconds after I last posted so missed the drama of the top 2 being unveiled.

thanks to all who ran the poll, good work.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 3 February 2011 20:50 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah thanks to the poll organisers, good list on the whole, definitely need to listen to the Agalloch record (probably a few other thigs too). L&C was a real shock #2, quite liked it but haven't played it in a while so I'll remedy that then I guess.

Gavin in Leeds, Thursday, 3 February 2011 20:58 (thirteen years ago) link

Really suprised the Twin Shadow album didnt place, I thought it was amazing and assumed it'd be total ILM bait.

Cyclone Yazoo (Trayce), Thursday, 3 February 2011 21:00 (thirteen years ago) link

whoa! we had a power cut about 35 minutes ago here. coincidence? what up?

xp

Where do you live?

I'm in Texas and we've been having rolling power outages here for the last 2 days due to the extreme cold overtaxing our power grid.

am I the only person on this board who things The-Dream is ridiculous? I like a few of his songs okay, but it's kind of a kitsch thing for me.

rockapads, Thursday, 3 February 2011 21:36 (thirteen years ago) link

*thinks

rockapads, Thursday, 3 February 2011 21:36 (thirteen years ago) link

My fave releases of 2010 that basically no one else on ILM gave a shit about or mentioned, fwiw:

Home Video - the Automatic Process
Veil Veil Vanish - Change in the Neon Light
Engineers - In Praise of More
the Prids - Chronosynclastic

he's basically the lolcat of R&B, yeah

I dont look at ILM very much, I missed this poll completely (and tbh dont often vote in polls), but yay at least it was repped! My fave album of last year. Technically it barely scraped in, its rest of world release is officially this month.

thanks to the poll organisers, this was fun to watch. lots for me to listen to now.

loved that yelawolf lambo song.

i fellate myself and want to fly (whatever), Thursday, 3 February 2011 22:06 (thirteen years ago) link

Who was the other Yelawolf #1?

Me.

My top ten was very hivemindful this year - Yelawolf, Diddy, VW, Taylor, The-Dream, Glasser, L&C, E-40 - only things that didn't place were Hot Toddy and Jacka & Laroo.

Tim F, Thursday, 3 February 2011 22:07 (thirteen years ago) link

My whole top ten placed. :o

The Reverend, Thursday, 3 February 2011 22:14 (thirteen years ago) link

The two albums this poll got me into so far, are Yelawolf and We Love. Thanks, ILM!

rockapads, Thursday, 3 February 2011 22:24 (thirteen years ago) link

putting it that way makes me like him more

I'm in Texas and we've been having rolling power outages here for the last 2 days due to the extreme cold overtaxing our power grid.

plz note: "extreme cold" in texas is still just like 15-25 degrees F, pretty much a normal day in other parts of north america

Damn this thread seems so....different without ilxor (ilxor), Thursday, 3 February 2011 22:34 (thirteen years ago) link

yes, extreme for us. We don't really have the infrastructure here to support weather this cold.

Moodles, Thursday, 3 February 2011 22:36 (thirteen years ago) link

lol "cold" we dont even get 25c in fucking summer very often

Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 3 February 2011 22:36 (thirteen years ago) link

we're talking fahrenheit here...

I've lived in Texas for 11 years and AFAIK this is the first time it's dipped into the teens since I moved here.

Moodles, Thursday, 3 February 2011 22:40 (thirteen years ago) link

I must remember to vote next year...mind you I'da probably made the Gareth Liddiard record no. 1 or close to it, and I doubt that would've gotten any outside attention.

Simon H., Thursday, 3 February 2011 22:43 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm disappointed that ilxor chose to vote for stuff he thought would place rather than vote for his fave 25 albums. In all lists people should not vote for what they think will place otherwise all lists will look the same!

Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 3 February 2011 22:50 (thirteen years ago) link

i agree. i seem to remember arguing with ilxor about it last year tho.
