A die-hard Chicago Cub fan, Ron Miller wrote his first sad song for his beloved but hapless team.
I love details like this. For "For Once In My Life" alone he was legendary but "I've Never Been to Me," that's just one of those songs of my youth that I'll always remember fondly -- even down to that spoken-word break.

He was a very traditional-pop kind of writer, especially for a Motown staffer. But then, he wrote "Heaven Help Us All," with that great gospel touch. Probably my favorite song of his, and a perfect fit for Stevie and Ray.
Rest in peace.

Also, I'm a TP fan, but did not know Miller wrote "Can't We Try."

Earlier this year, Bennett, Buble, Josh Groban, and Carrie Underwood teamed up for the first time ever to perform the song live on the Oprah Winfrey Show for millions of viewers.
OH THAT'S HOW I'D KNOW HIM.
