tell me more about your taste

kinda think al is a champ for taking on probably the most uncool period of rock music and giving it such a fair trail, & for extent of scrutiny & 3rd singles off weezer albums and all
― samosa gibreel, Monday, 13 September 2010 02:12 (thirteen years ago) link
idk it's not exactly a charity to mainstream rock... a lot of this is a fucking blast to listen to
― J0rdan S., Monday, 13 September 2010 02:13 (thirteen years ago) link
not that al doesn't spend more time paying attention to this shit than any critic
― J0rdan S., Monday, 13 September 2010 02:14 (thirteen years ago) link
what more do you need to know about my taste? the only bands i like are the strokes and the yeah yeah yeahs :)
― charlie h, Monday, 13 September 2010 02:17 (thirteen years ago) link
yeah, no i totally agree
by "fair trial" i meant like celebrating what should be celebrated and accepting & engaging w/ commercial rock on its own terms, rather than flat out dismissal or focusing on instances of it acting out of character/crossover with indie trends. don't mean uncool as a negative value judgment either, but it's true!

xp
besides loving this song, i love the video

lots of these songs are classic

Excellent top 2!
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Monday, 13 September 2010 03:52 (thirteen years ago) link
did you limit yourself to just singles?
"sweetness" is such a jam & the only other contender here is "mr. brightside" which is kinda an indie pick imm? oh just saw "im not okay (i promise)" which has such an easy, sweet lift to it & a killer vid - think ill vote 4 that
― swagula (Lamp), Monday, 13 September 2010 03:58 (thirteen years ago) link
mebbe u should read the title
― markers garvey (The Reverend), Monday, 13 September 2010 03:59 (thirteen years ago) link
"Beautiful Day" is the only one on this list that is probably actually the best single the band released during the decade
― harbl essences (crüt), Monday, 13 September 2010 04:01 (thirteen years ago) link
besides korn of course (proof: my prior post)
tbqf i only really understand like a third of the words in the thread title
― swagula (Lamp), Monday, 13 September 2010 04:05 (thirteen years ago) link
"favorite al shipley rock single" is definitely a foreign concept to me
― harbl essences (crüt), Monday, 13 September 2010 04:06 (thirteen years ago) link
So I guess rock really *is* dead.

I'll rep for that train song too

also can't believe korn hired the london philharmonic orchestra to background their cover of the cameo song, jeez
― subtle like the g in 'goole' (dayo), Monday, 13 September 2010 04:09 (thirteen years ago) link
think the results are gonna come down to mr. brightside vs. maps, which somehow also seem to be the safest 'indie' choices
― subtle like the g in 'goole' (dayo), Monday, 13 September 2010 04:10 (thirteen years ago) link
i think my chem has a chance altho they might split votes
― J0rdan S., Monday, 13 September 2010 04:10 (thirteen years ago) link
also "fat lip"
― markers garvey (The Reverend), Monday, 13 September 2010 04:18 (thirteen years ago) link
I love MCR but for some reason I dunno if any of their songs individually can stand up to the rest of the list...maybe if the black parade were on here
― subtle like the g in 'goole' (dayo), Monday, 13 September 2010 04:19 (thirteen years ago) link
fat lip not as good as I remembered it being :/
I'm shocked by how many of these I don't hate, or even enjoy, considering that almost all of these were radio hits.
"Go With The Flow" is better than most of these.

This guy clearly listens to a lot of rock music.
― billstevejim, Monday, 13 September 2010 04:25 (thirteen years ago) link
just listened to the chemical romance song for the first time. if that's the best thing the 00s could cough out, we're talking a pretty dire decade in music.
― charlie h, Monday, 13 September 2010 04:27 (thirteen years ago) link
they're called MY chemical romance, charlie
― J0rdan S., Monday, 13 September 2010 04:28 (thirteen years ago) link
A++ trolling
― markers, Monday, 13 September 2010 04:31 (thirteen years ago) link
eh idk about A++
did you see captain lorax in the poli thread today?
― J0rdan S., Monday, 13 September 2010 04:32 (thirteen years ago) link
yeah that was something
― markers, Monday, 13 September 2010 04:32 (thirteen years ago) link
idk about A++ either, tbh
'when you were young' is probably my favorite song here i guess
― ciderpress, Monday, 13 September 2010 04:32 (thirteen years ago) link
that's a really good song -- probably not my favorite Killers single though
― markers, Monday, 13 September 2010 04:33 (thirteen years ago) link
37. Alien Ant Farm - "Smooth Criminal" (2001)36. Korn - "Word Up!" (2004)35. Disturbed - "Land Of Confusion" (2006)34. The Ataris - "Boys Of Summer" (2003)
Was this intentional? And P.S. No Doubt's "It's My Life" is better than all of these.

haha

xp yeah a lot of the choices on here are like my 3rd or 4th favorite eligible single by the band
― ciderpress, Monday, 13 September 2010 04:42 (thirteen years ago) link
i see u are catching on to the ways of shipley
― *sets trend* (deej), Monday, 13 September 2010 04:42 (thirteen years ago) link
fine, MY chemical romance. i was actually prepared to be pleasantly surprised by the song. didn't happen, but it's never in my nature to celebrate a dislike for anything i hear. i'd rather have listened to it and enjoyed it.
― charlie h, Monday, 13 September 2010 04:46 (thirteen years ago) link
is it also not in your nature to poo poo an entire decade based on one song
― subtle like the g in 'goole' (dayo), Monday, 13 September 2010 04:49 (thirteen years ago) link
or one human's opinion
― billstevejim, Monday, 13 September 2010 04:49 (thirteen years ago) link
charlie h is becoming based by osmosis
― J0rdan S., Monday, 13 September 2010 04:49 (thirteen years ago) link
"is it also not in your nature to poo poo an entire decade based on one song"
"or one human's opinions"
to suggest those things would be to misinterpret what i wrote. i'm not commenting on the decade. i'm commenting on the writer's placement of my chemical romance at no. 1, which i disagree with. what i personally think about the decade doesn't even come into play here.
jordan, i don't even know what you mean about the osmosis thing. care to elaborate?
― charlie h, Monday, 13 September 2010 04:59 (thirteen years ago) link
no not really
― J0rdan S., Monday, 13 September 2010 05:00 (thirteen years ago) link

The best rock of the 00's starts here:

― billstevejim, Monday, 13 September 2010 05:05 (thirteen years ago) link
so, basically i'm saying that if my chemical romance are responsible for the best rock song of the 00s (which they aren't in my opinion, because i think they're fucking terrible), then the decade must have been pretty bad for music (which it isn't in my opinion, because i think my chemical romance are fucking terrible).
anyway, this conversation is going nowhere.

then I listen to My Chemical Romanceswagthen I post to ILXswageat that challop soupswagthis is how I do
