I saw a bit of the Pre New's set at 1234 on Saturday, think they clashed with someone else I wanted to see so didn't stick around for long but it was pretty good, the bit I saw.

app. jim cut his hand, and the band pissed off the sound crew resulting in vocals being dropped from their set ?

ian harrison @ word wrote it up : http://www.mojo4music.com/blog/2010/07/1234_festival_looks_back_to_th.html

The sound crew were bloody useless in that tent have to say - they cut the power off for one of the bands earlier in the day.

Also Peter Hook's Unknown Pleasures was wank.

We've got a stream of the Pre-New album for the next couple of days.

It's called Music For People Who Hate Themselves and fans of Earl Brutus will find it very interesting I should imagine.

It's lovely. Really, really, really good record. Nothing's quite as monumental as Cathedral City Comedown (a MIGHTY statement of intent) or Albion, You've Done Nothing Wrong (although Night On Leather Mountain comes close) but the whole thing is really nicely put together and purveys a particularly aching strain of British melancholia. Even as it rocks the house down.

Not as good as either Earl Brutus album but then I don't think it's intended to be.

It's the first day of the World Cup and I have Earl Brutus and The Pre New stuck in my head

Who whom kissed? (imago), Thursday, 12 June 2014 18:01 (ten years ago) link

likewise.
was in the studio two weeks ago with the pre new crew as part of a male choir/football gang thing to help re the bands second album.
ended up being one of the best things ever to happen in my life.
a totally surreal experience given the source of the connection.
(i slept on jamie frys sofa .. and then p*ssed in the direction of a genuine david bowie signed album sleeve ..)

mark e, Thursday, 12 June 2014 19:44 (ten years ago) link

:D

Rarely have the postmodern and the Real mixed so exuberantly, or so well

Who whom kissed? (imago), Thursday, 12 June 2014 19:54 (ten years ago) link

agreed.
surreal to the extreme.
my head was spinning, and not just from the excess booze.
i kept having these 'hang on mark, what the f*ck is actually happening here' moments.
thankfully, such moments of clarity were interrupted by a lot of laffs.
and booze of course.

mark e, Thursday, 12 June 2014 19:56 (ten years ago) link

Envious! It sounds like a truly mighty experience. And a productive one. My soundtrack for the next month gains further resolve...

Who whom kissed? (imago), Thursday, 12 June 2014 20:03 (ten years ago) link

no idea if productive.
they may wipe the recordings ..
which would be totally understandable.
but yes, you should be envious.
i was.
of myself.
[ as for the tracks we helped towards .. oh my god .. ]

mark e, Thursday, 12 June 2014 20:12 (ten years ago) link

Cathedral City Comedown still one of my favourite songs of the last few years - if they've matched or even beaten it...

Who whom kissed? (imago), Thursday, 12 June 2014 20:18 (ten years ago) link

not sure you will put what we did on that level.
was another cover version.
no idea as to the final result.
time will tell.

mark e, Thursday, 12 June 2014 20:21 (ten years ago) link

That's an amazing story Mark. Add me to the very envious club.

Kitchen Person, Thursday, 12 June 2014 21:40 (ten years ago) link

amazingly my mad day with this lot, as mentioned up thread, is actually featured on the new album.
me on an album that people can buy in shops.
wonders will never cease.
even my dad ('how much were you paid !!?' : his standard response to my website/blog/writing groove) was kind of impressed.
subsequently, despite my well known denial of vinyl love, i have gone and ordered the big limited boxset edition with cd/vinyl/mp3/PDF versions of the album.
so far the reviews (q, mojo, tQ etc) have been rather positive.
cannot deny it all feels rather weird.

Mark, we're almost certain to be in the same room at some Pre New thing or other, so we should endeavour to introduce ourselves to each other... not sure how...

Quack and Merkt (Tom D.), Thursday, 30 April 2015 20:38 (nine years ago) link

i wish that were the case Tom D, but i rarely leave my house these days.

however, i will of course let you know via this thread should i ever venture out again for this bunch of f*ckers.

if you have checked the studio photos of the day i have mentioned (they all were posted on the bands facebook page, i am the bald f*cker in the spiderman t-shirt .. )

mark e, Thursday, 30 April 2015 20:43 (nine years ago) link
