I am pleased that Alex in NYC is now a fan of Pissed Jeans.
They kick a lot of ass.

But their name is terrible!

Birchville Cat Motel well worth your time.

Die Antwoord

because it's foreign, or because you don't like it in translation?

Because it looks really stupid, phonetically, at first glance.

Black Tape for a Blue Girl

I love this band name, although I've never heard the band.

Any band I have written off bcz of their name is the type of band I would actively have to search out myself to hear, anyway. ie: Monsoon Bassoon, who are never on the radio, and who no one I know listens to.

There is a band playing at my friend's underground festival this weekend called TURD THROWER.
Pretty sure I am missing that day, anyway.

Trip Maker, Wednesday, 14 July 2010 21:27 (thirteen years ago) link

Doesn't sound like something you'd want to catch, that's for sure.

Any act whose name has the word "fuck" or "shit" in it. I'm too old for that type of "edginess".

Any act whose name has more than four words. "I just bought the new album by I Love You But My Panda Is Gay" is not a sentence I ever want to say out loud.

Tuomas, Thursday, 15 July 2010 11:23 (thirteen years ago) link

LOL! I would totally be in a joke band called I Love You But My Panda Is Gay.

sarahel, Thursday, 15 July 2010 14:32 (thirteen years ago) link

A friend recommended me a band called Volapük but I can't listen to them because every time I read it I think "vomit puke".

Big "a-doy" one that I'm shocked hasn't wound up here yet: Limp Bizkit.

There are plenty of other, more credible reasons to write off Limp Bizkit.

ilxor has truly been got at and become an ILXor (ilxor), Thursday, 15 July 2010 18:02 (thirteen years ago) link

But the name is a pretty adequate map of the territory, you have to admit.

Hurrah for Alex' Pissed Jeans loving.

For me, they reignited that whole Flipper, Fang, Killdozer flame with their debut. Their second one was, erm, toilet but "King of Jeans" nails it.

Hilarious existential sarcasm.

Would love to see them live. Any good?

new reviews at Onion's AV club:

Music

* Carissa's Wierd A
* The Innocence Mission B+
* Danger Mouse And Sparklehorse B-
* School Of Seven Bells C

"Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse" sounds like an 80s Saturday morning cartoon.

I think Volapük is a decent band name, at least if you know what "volapük" is.
