Cassie's voice might be thin, but it's also hard to get out of your head. I've never been to a dance club, but I always picture Cassie being that girl who makes eye contact with you from across the dancefloor. You know? The one who comes over in the middle of "No Diggity" and whispers sweet, seductive phrases in your ear? She's just so addictive and irresistible. And along with this mostly simplistic beat, she's hypnotic. Because the song is so shy, whenever it wants to climax--whenever Cassie wants to take it to the hotel room, if you will--it's ridiculously effective. And you're left wanting more. -Tape Store

"Kick Push" has just come out over here - achieving the astonishing feat of making me temporarily enthusiastic about the notion of a "golden age" hip hop revival. At least while it's playing, anyway. -Tim Finney Call me nostalgic for Native Tongues-style funkiness, but I bought "Kick Push" from iTunes after only very, very randomly catching the video (once) on TV. A lot of so-called backpacker business forgets to engage the "fun" button, but this doesn't. -Tantrum The Cat

I think Silent Shout sounds impressive right away, but it doesn't sound really good until after you get to know it. -Matthew C Perpetua

LDN is the happiest song about pimps and crack whores and old ladies being mugged ever. -StanM

its the most dramatic track, the most immediate, the most punchy drum wise (meatier) its everything a single ought to be... all the breaths as percussion almost R'n'B allusions, the subtle palm muted rock instrumentation running along with the synth arpeggio... the lyric is a load of nothing, true but it still works brilliantly as some kind of re-imagined 80s pop that actually sounds nothing like anything made in the 80s... a simulacrum that's actually completely contemporaneous... -gekoppel

i just saw the promiscuous boy video and nelly furtado amazingly looks SEXY in it! i really like the song, neither timbaland nor nelly seem like promiscuous ppl at all, theyre both kind of nerdy and i like them. i have no idea why theyre pretending to be promiscous! is it to downplay the intensity of their attraction?! it is a song worth talking about you dull/bitter clowns - fuck you and your jaded vaudeville act! ... i shd add that i really like how promiscuous girl keeps the slightly mystical 'world music' rocks & hills vibe of that annoying worthy album that nelly did last time, just enough that it sez 'THIS IS NELLY' but leaves out 'and check out how wholesome i am', and then those synths in the chorus are so melancholy, its so much more of a love song than a promiscuity song. -karri miback

It's all about the rise and fall of that mammoth synth riff, swaggering lazily along and steamrolling everything in its path without even trying; the rise and fall of TI's unmistakeable flow, those irresistible Georgia inflections alternately tough, amused, silly, deadly serious, and at every point just too damn good to bother with such minor concerns as pausing to breathe; the rise and fall of your feet in time to the beat, convinced for four minutes that they're the feet of a king who owns the whole neighbourhood, just as the supreme 'What You Know' owned 2006. So confidence-instilling that it should be prescribed to neurotics, this is the sound of total triumph. -lex pretend
