Gotta say, I feel a bit weird, breaking up the flow of everyone's excellent covers with my 8-minute nouveau-splurge bedroom-art-attack. Makes me nervous when people are all 'this is great!' about the whole thing.

Dan, Dan, DARRAGH (acoleuthic), Friday, 21 May 2010 13:04 (fourteen years ago) link

Like you intentionally spoiled the song?

double shyamalan (MaresNest), Friday, 21 May 2010 13:27 (fourteen years ago) link

Spoiled?! That's harsh. Gave my own spin on it, yes.

Dan, Dan, DARRAGH (acoleuthic), Friday, 21 May 2010 13:31 (fourteen years ago) link

Right, this I gotta hear

Wenlock & Mandelson (Tom D.), Friday, 21 May 2010 13:33 (fourteen years ago) link

XP: Sorry LJ, I wasn't suggesting you did, just wondering why you might be nervous about CN checking it out. Unless I'm reading you wrong.

double shyamalan (MaresNest), Friday, 21 May 2010 13:35 (fourteen years ago) link

You are mental tho' :)

double shyamalan (MaresNest), Friday, 21 May 2010 13:35 (fourteen years ago) link

Nooo, I'm not nervous about CN checking it out, just nervous at the blanket praise given to the comp. As if I've somehow thrown a big stinking weed among the roses.

Dan, Dan, DARRAGH (acoleuthic), Friday, 21 May 2010 13:39 (fourteen years ago) link

I'm sure it's the scented rose in the bumgut of Satan

Wenlock & Mandelson (Tom D.), Friday, 21 May 2010 13:40 (fourteen years ago) link

I can only assume that MaresNest sequenced mine after the prettiest, most radio-friendly song on the whole comp out of some sense of gleeful anarchism

Dan, Dan, DARRAGH (acoleuthic), Friday, 21 May 2010 13:43 (fourteen years ago) link

I pussied out a bit by not thinking too hard about the sequencing, I knew Ken's was first, Meower last, the multiples had to be far apart and yours and mine (being long assed) needed to be apart too, nowt beyond that.

double shyamalan (MaresNest), Friday, 21 May 2010 13:50 (fourteen years ago) link

(that said, 'prettiest' even as meant in that sense is challenged by Sean, n/a, Elvis T and MaresNest...there's a lot of pretty, also a lot of kickass)

Hey - the sequencing's pretty good IMO! I'm not fussed at all; it doesn't seem too worked-out but it works, which is optimal. It works especially well as a double-album; each disc has a nice flow to it. ESOJ/S' one is quite long as well, btw ;-)

Dan, Dan, DARRAGH (acoleuthic), Friday, 21 May 2010 13:53 (fourteen years ago) link

Please to put working link to download in first post of thread, I've scrolled up and down through these 500+ messages and found two expired YouSendIt links.

StanM, Friday, 21 May 2010 17:25 (fourteen years ago) link

Stan: show all messages and then search FTP: and you'll find it in the meantime.

thanks!

You've all done very well.

StanM, Friday, 21 May 2010 19:28 (fourteen years ago) link

Is that young Mr Grace? Heh!

Now, can we at least talk about the next one yet?

double shyamalan (MaresNest), Friday, 21 May 2010 19:55 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeah, I have a challenge for people here.

A Disco Inferno tribute album.

*faints*

*then recovers and does quick google search for sound effects library cd torrent sites*

double shyamalan (MaresNest), Friday, 21 May 2010 20:03 (fourteen years ago) link

i'm in.

EGOT Schiele (get bent), Friday, 21 May 2010 20:04 (fourteen years ago) link

I'm quite serious, BTW. I would be VERY interested to hear how people would redo those songs/arrangements.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 21 May 2010 20:04 (fourteen years ago) link

And if you're willing to coordinate, MaresNest, start up the thread...

Ned Raggett, Friday, 21 May 2010 20:05 (fourteen years ago) link

Bagsy It's A Kid's World

double shyamalan (MaresNest), Friday, 21 May 2010 20:05 (fourteen years ago) link

That could be very interesting!

Although I take it a No Line On The Horizon-style (hell, ILX Has A Bucket-style) original compositions project isn't on anyone's mind? Maybe the challenge could be to do the DI one in a matter of days.

Dan, Dan, DARRAGH (acoleuthic), Friday, 21 May 2010 20:05 (fourteen years ago) link

I'm more than willing

double shyamalan (MaresNest), Friday, 21 May 2010 20:06 (fourteen years ago) link

I hear you LJ, but I'm wondering (like I did last time) who is in the frame for upcoming releases.

double shyamalan (MaresNest), Friday, 21 May 2010 20:07 (fourteen years ago) link

Good on ya, MaresNest. Start the thread.

I'm in for "Love Stepping Out."

Ned Raggett, Friday, 21 May 2010 20:10 (fourteen years ago) link

Can't we just...create? Ah fine, I'm down for this. Something off 'Technicolour', not sure what yet

(Working For A Nuclear Free City are about to release an album with looooads of tracks, not that anyone except Ned and I actually care)

Dan, Dan, DARRAGH (acoleuthic), Friday, 21 May 2010 20:12 (fourteen years ago) link

(*cares)

Another ILX Bucket comp *is* a very good idea, but I almost want to defer to Mark G to coordinate that! If he's willing.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 21 May 2010 20:13 (fourteen years ago) link

No reason we can't have more than one going!

Sean Carruthers, Friday, 21 May 2010 20:17 (fourteen years ago) link

Yep, here goes then!

double shyamalan (MaresNest), Friday, 21 May 2010 20:18 (fourteen years ago) link

two months pass...

Once again, n/a's contribution has attacked me many months hence and blown my little mind. Dude, you're a hero. Although I gotta reiterate that this compilation is rock-solid from start to finish.

I LOL'd so hard when I first heard the Final Placement sample in Edward III's track

Reasons I don't want to do this:

1) I had a fantastic time doing this, it was like christmas every time a track arrived, and barring a few technicalities (i.e. a couple of tracks that were too long) I was able to incorporate everything I received into the final tracklisting, and every track was wonderful. It's not that 'you shouldn't revisit, next time would not be as good' it's more that someone else should have that kind of fun.

2) I was going to contribute a track last time, but ran out of time and/or inspiration, I forget which. Also, I would be either biased towards (or against) my track's placement (or lack of it), etc. Someone else needs to make that kind of decision.

3) Thesedays, I have less of an ILX presence. Having said that, if someone does kick Vol4 off, they'd better let me know. I missed out on the U2 and the Wire comps, but hey.

So, it's up for grabs.

Hmm, I might repost that message on a dedicated thread.

Hah, my friend Tyler just played "Ambitious" by Paul and Ned (and credited it from the album 12SBU on the playlist! I don't think he even knows that this thread exists. Congrats! Also, Tyler's show is awesome, tune it:

Haha this is a vision.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 12 March 2012 18:32 (twelve years ago) link

It was beautiful in the context of the show too. I have no idea how he got the song, but Tyler is a gem, so it was perhaps one of those things that was meant to be. He just played Medicine by the way.

It's been a little while since Bowie & seeing as it was popular and fun, might anybody be interested in another shot at an ILX Wire Comp? I'm happy to curate.
