a radical idea: sort the songs by how "good" they are; i.e. put the "best" songs at the beginning and the "worst" songs at the end

Okay, wow, finally getting to listen to some of these. Impossible to pick a favorite, but I'm very impressed by the quality and diversity of tracks.

Yeah I really liked these. Good work all around!

"Heartbeat" was a real showstopper. So epic!

thank you all!

ok everything here is ace but I wanted to say that once on a drunken night bus home I decided that an 8-bit electronic Wire covers project was to be my LIFE'S WORK but I could not make it work out at all
anyway M. Mathieu's 12xu is everything I imagined that concept to be and more, much love for that

aw <3 yay!

stupidfruityswagaliciousexpialidocious (m bison), Wednesday, 5 May 2010 22:06 (fourteen years ago) link

Listened to this at work today and am pleased, embarrassed and humbled to be in y'all's company. Agree with the poster above that MaresNest set this whole thing up just to show off - "Boiling Boy" is making my next mixtape fer sure. Very well done, all.

Bashful Johnny C. (staggerlee), Wednesday, 5 May 2010 23:06 (fourteen years ago) link

so what's next? an ilx kate bush comp? (dibs on "hammer horror" and "oh england my lionheart." i know from past experience that i can do the high notes even if it makes my throat hurt.)

bette ghent (get bent), Wednesday, 5 May 2010 23:35 (fourteen years ago) link

that would be tight. i had suggested upthread an idea that i will alter slightly. (potentially) beat the-dream to his release date and do Love Viking: An ILX tribute to the-dream

stupidfruityswagaliciousexpialidocious (m bison), Wednesday, 5 May 2010 23:37 (fourteen years ago) link

that's pretty funny. maybe i can do a monologue admonishing mr. the-dream for rogue hyphenation.

bette ghent (get bent), Wednesday, 5 May 2010 23:41 (fourteen years ago) link

it is some odd hyphenizing, i'm wondering if there is some 60's girl group called the dream and he threw it in there to avoid BMI/ASCAP confusion or something

stupidfruityswagaliciousexpialidocious (m bison), Wednesday, 5 May 2010 23:41 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah let's do an original composition thingy next! not that mine for this was a 'cover' so much as 8 minutes of clumsy hacking at a corpse. sorry, wire.

gonna rescreen this now - it really is something.

Is a dented rat.

She wanted to test her owner.
She knew exactly what to do:
A few hairballs to fool him.
She couldn't have made a worse move.

meow-meow-meow-meow-meoooowwwwww
unbelieeeeevable

bette ghent (get bent), Thursday, 6 May 2010 00:21 (fourteen years ago) link

Great thing is you don't really need to change the lyrics to "Hounds of Love" at all.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 6 May 2010 00:23 (fourteen years ago) link

Someone tell a poor ingrate what all this Viking talk is plz (I'm too lazy to google)

And yep, I did indeed set it all up to dazzle you with my acumen (one chord song choice and amazing singer friend aside) :)

Heavy Potato Encounter (MaresNest), Thursday, 6 May 2010 01:27 (fourteen years ago) link

The best thing you did was to sequence that burst of applause at the start of Ed III's first tune right after my track ;-)

Mansun was where I fucked up (acoleuthic), Thursday, 6 May 2010 01:29 (fourteen years ago) link

For future possilbles I was thinking - Echo & The Bunnymen, The Church, The Cure, New Order, PIL maybe.

Heavy Potato Encounter (MaresNest), Thursday, 6 May 2010 01:30 (fourteen years ago) link

Would totally be up for a Church comp submission!

Acapella 'Field Of Mars' by tomorrow plz

Heavy Potato Encounter (MaresNest), Thursday, 6 May 2010 01:40 (fourteen years ago) link

Or not.

Meantime did anyone else download the bonus MaresNest put up? Good stuff!

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 6 May 2010 02:37 (fourteen years ago) link

zero of the signified just asked about the possibility of doing beastie boys covers.

bette ghent (get bent), Thursday, 6 May 2010 02:40 (fourteen years ago) link

or bowie -- he said he would lay claim to the tin machine catalog.

bette ghent (get bent), Thursday, 6 May 2010 02:41 (fourteen years ago) link

btw i tried to d/l the bonus material but only the first link worked.

bette ghent (get bent), Thursday, 6 May 2010 02:49 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeah it was tricky for me too -- rather than downloading the folder I had to download the individual tracks.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 6 May 2010 02:50 (fourteen years ago) link

Meantime if zots (which is a perfect acronym) can somehow salvage a song like the Hunt Sales-sung "I'm Sorry" and make it not be sloppy blooze bullshit I salute him.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 6 May 2010 02:51 (fourteen years ago) link

Oh Ned, you card. Am I the only person who loves that first Tin Machine album? Granted the second one didn't quite scan with me, but...

zero of the signified, Thursday, 6 May 2010 03:02 (fourteen years ago) link

Oh Ned, you card.

sung to the tune of "oh bondage up yours."

bette ghent (get bent), Thursday, 6 May 2010 03:07 (fourteen years ago) link

Hahah.

There's good stuff on both albums. And then there's some not so good stuff...

I saw them live at a promo appearance for the second album, as muttered here.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 6 May 2010 03:10 (fourteen years ago) link

ok Ed's Strange on HEADPHONES.

Mansun was where I fucked up (acoleuthic), Thursday, 6 May 2010 03:43 (fourteen years ago) link

I shouldn't blab about some of the tracks and not others! But Lowdown -> Marooned -> Heartbeat is some goddamn lushness

Mansun was where I fucked up (acoleuthic), Thursday, 6 May 2010 04:05 (fourteen years ago) link

Is there going to be a separate d/l page eventually? Want to spread word about the comp, but not necessarily the organizational thread.

Facebook fan page like Pre-interpreted U2?
