Brio, Friday, 26 March 2010 19:39 (fourteen years ago) link

Brio, Friday, 26 March 2010 19:40 (fourteen years ago) link

Mr. Que, Friday, 26 March 2010 19:41 (fourteen years ago) link

tylerw, Friday, 26 March 2010 19:45 (fourteen years ago) link

i'd be super-shocked if you didn't like up on the sun

Brio, Friday, 26 March 2010 19:53 (fourteen years ago) link

We can hip you to highlights of their later records later but yeah just start with II and Up.

鬼の手 (Edward III), Friday, 26 March 2010 20:28 (fourteen years ago) link

i think every album might get at least one vote.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 27 March 2010 00:44 (fourteen years ago) link

up on the sun is soooooo great.

ian, Saturday, 27 March 2010 02:34 (fourteen years ago) link

i just bought it!

tylerw, Saturday, 27 March 2010 02:36 (fourteen years ago) link

am i the only person who doesn't like meat puppets II? just totally doesn't work for me, hate the vocals.

Slaughter in Robot Village (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Saturday, 27 March 2010 02:48 (fourteen years ago) link

it's not my favorite meat puppets record by any stretch, and now that i think about it i'd rank them: in a car > s/t > up on the sun > II

and i don't know if i've ever heard any of them past that. i guess i should check out huevos sometime?

ian, Saturday, 27 March 2010 02:54 (fourteen years ago) link

xpost Naw, I just cannot get past those weak vox. Never understood the love at all.

Armchair Crab (staggerlee), Saturday, 27 March 2010 04:48 (fourteen years ago) link

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 29 March 2010 18:58 (fourteen years ago) link

was listening to II a bunch this weekend....that's a real dusty trip. love it.

can't think of anything (M@tt He1ges0n), Monday, 29 March 2010 19:04 (fourteen years ago) link

Huevos wasn't "weird" enough for some old-school fans but it's pretty awesome zztop style driving boogie rock.

Brio, Monday, 29 March 2010 19:11 (fourteen years ago) link

oh and yeah i can totally understand the singing being a block to enjoying II but it's all about the wailing axes

Brio, Monday, 29 March 2010 19:13 (fourteen years ago) link

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Monday, 29 March 2010 23:01 (fourteen years ago) link

Too High to Die is a good intro if you can't get past the vocals on the SST records. Leary did some good knob twiddling on them, and Kirkwood could sing better and its a very strong set of songs.

bendy, Tuesday, 30 March 2010 02:32 (fourteen years ago) link

"Family Man" is my favorite Black Sabbath album!

demonic splendor, demonic majesty (Abbott), Tuesday, 30 March 2010 02:45 (fourteen years ago) link

I mean, the one by Black Flag is pretty good, too, though.

demonic splendor, demonic majesty (Abbott), Tuesday, 30 March 2010 02:45 (fourteen years ago) link

maybe every album will get at least one vote then

Those two doubles are truly twin titans, but I'm gonna give it to II, just because it's the one I most feel like hearing right now. But yeah, everything up there is pretty good-to-great.

I like that label-of-the-year idea - I've always had an affinity for Sire in 1977, Warner/Reprise in '69, and Elektra in '67.

Half lies and gorilla dust (Myonga Vön Bontee), Tuesday, 30 March 2010 16:12 (fourteen years ago) link

i dont think anyones gonna do the best label of 84 sadly

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 30 March 2010 16:15 (fourteen years ago) link

There's some year of Bizarre/Straight that includes both Starsailor and Lick My Decals Off, Baby iirc-- that's a contendah!

Bonnie Prince Stabby (Jon Lewis), Tuesday, 30 March 2010 16:23 (fourteen years ago) link

Rough Trade was crazy in 1980 - Pere Ubu, Swell Maps, Young Marble Giants, Raincoats, Pop Group, Cabaret Voltaire, The Fall, James Blood Ulmer, TV Personalities, Essential Logic, Robert Wyatt, Slits, Delta 5, Scritti Politti, the Prefects...

wow

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 30 March 2010 23:03 (fourteen years ago) link

All the more impressive that husker du got the vote split and still won.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 30 March 2010 23:04 (fourteen years ago) link

I had hoped that ZA and DNOTD might tie actually. Cuz both are great albums.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 30 March 2010 23:06 (fourteen years ago) link

wtf!

Religious Embolism (WmC), Tuesday, 30 March 2010 23:07 (fourteen years ago) link

Nice surprise! But tinged with sadness that I was the only one who voted for Saccharine Trust.

However you were right pfunkboy - every album got at least one vote!

wronger than 100 geir posts (MacDara), Tuesday, 30 March 2010 23:14 (fourteen years ago) link

didn't realize there were so many damn Husker fans lurking about.

circa1916, Tuesday, 30 March 2010 23:18 (fourteen years ago) link

Let me reiterate: wow. Between this and the other SST poll, it would seem that Husker Du has a lot more goodwill out there than I thought. Hooray for that.

clemenza, Tuesday, 30 March 2010 23:41 (fourteen years ago) link

Husker Du are liked round here, but they're outnumbered by Minutemen fans and DNOTD fans are a lot more vocal. But tbh i think a lot love both, but HD fans cant agree on what is their best album while Minutemen fans generally do. Hence DNOTD usually doing well in the polls.

Favourite SST Release of... 1985

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 30 March 2010 23:55 (fourteen years ago) link

as i said in the last poll, i pretty much expect Husker to dominate any poll they're in after this: your favorite run of SST releases by one band
