You would think that on a site full of journos that some would volunteer to write blurbs.

I actually like when polls use previous comments, much more so than blurbs. Ties it all back together as opposed to reading like some sort of pronouncement from on high.

I'd rather some people provided blurbs. If people want to email their previous posts about the albums then I guess it will be ok.

If Jamie Saft places highly I'll be happy to write about why it's the greatest metal album of the year.

Any particular reason why Nachtmystium's Doomsday Derelicts EP isn't on this list? I'd guess because it's an EP, but so are Jesu and Nadja and others, I'm sure. Just an oversight, then? Can I include it on my list?

seriously, pfunk, listen to the album before commenting again. i seriously don't get why you think it's funny to continually ask if it's metal or not when it's as metal as anything else nominated on the list.

Thanks, didn't realize there was a nomination process. Out of curiosity, why wasn't it nominated? (Doomsday Derelicts, I mean.) Regulars here weren't into it? For my money, it's an excellent EP from the band who made the best metal album of 2008.

I think most people dont nominate ep's apart from chuck. I think generally for metal polls people don't want ep's. The general ilm poll i think welcomes ep's.

But im guessing everyone just forgot about it. Nachtmystium were top 10 in last years poll, so there's no lack of love for them.

That makes sense, thanks for explaining. Anyway, it WOULD be (pretty high-ish) on my list, if it were eligible. As it stands, the list of nominees is very comprehensive (I listen to a lot of metal and I've never heard [or even heard of] many of those records), so I certainly can't complain.

That Nachtmystium thing is rad as fuck but I couldn't really see a way to pretending that four songs in 17 minutes was an 'album' - ditto the Black Breath EP which every single person reading this thread should be implanting in their brain but, again, not an album

DJ Mencap: I agree, it's not an album, but it's better than many albums I heard this year. And if Jesu's EPs are being considered, why not Nachtmystium? But it's not some great crime against list-making, just a personal note. That said, here are a few others that would have made my ballot if they had been nominated (these are actual LPs): Mournful Congregation's "The June Frost"; Hiems' "Worship or Die."

Actually, I have no opinion of (or interest in) 90 % of that list, metal or otherwise, to be honest. (Did check out the Voivod, though -- it's good! Didn't get through My Dying Bride. Couldn't find Wolf on Rhapsody, though theoretically it's there.)

We've got 28 votes so far (inc mine) so we're on target to beat last years 30 (despite being a bimble down this year sadly.)

So please everyone who hasn't voted, give it a go! Minimum list of ten up to a maximum of 30 (ordered)

Fwiw, at least a couple more EPs are up there, too -- Dirty Little Rabbits and White Wizzard, both of which I plan to vote for (if I ever get around to voting, that is.)
