I wish they'd shown the bit after it, I seem to remember Mike Read going hilariously sanctimonious/apeshit.

xpost

Maybe the clip was taken from one of those "I Heart Swearing at Minor Celebrities" shows and the laughter belonged to that.

I think I like this song a lot, though not sure I own it.

This and "Time and Tide" were the synthetic but fun end of the British jazz-pop movement that started with Everythig But The Girl and Carmel.

Eazy, Thursday, 7 August 2008 18:29 (fifteen years ago) link

This was my mom's favorite song when it came out and it reminds me of her/childhood. I love it but have never heard anything else by SS.

ENBB, Thursday, 7 August 2008 18:34 (fifteen years ago) link

For me this is THE perfect song to play on a cold, dreary day when it's hard to feel enthusiastic about anything.

Could this video be the inspiration for Apartment 3G's notorious sweatshop story arc???

omg this youtube comment:

at the risk of sounding classless and believe me I sure can be,,after all I am Irish-Scots,,I do dig this song,,and this woman in particular,,,I give her a 5 on a scale of 10,,,as is typically British,, this stuff is too metrosexual for my tastes,,,but her vocalisation is quite on,,,,I have a lot of their mp3 files

"Breakout" has this amazing ability to erase its sound from my memory moments after listening to it. I like this song but I can never remember a damn thing about it.

I just realized the Roots sampled this...

i've been having extended basia/swing out sister moments lately during my personal listening sessions

i love the way the artwork on those atari cartridges makes it look like it concerns some futuristic laser-jai alai game
...forgot that atari used that bauhaus font on their stuff at the time

I went to a head shop with my brother where they sold records in the back, mostly the same selection as a thrift store but w/fewer MoTabChoir records. They were all $5 or less with the exception of a copy of "It's Better To Travel," for which they were asking $35! wtf?
