ha! the Vejtables were awesome! Tim, you ever hear that CD on Sundazed? Pretty fucking solid actually and nobody ever talks about them...

Stormy Davis (diamond), Sunday, 16 April 2006 04:14 (eighteen years ago) link

No, I haven't heard it. You know what's an awesome early Sundazed release that you never see anyone talk about? Things to Come (CD comp is called I Want Out) - GREAT L.A. R&B group.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Sunday, 16 April 2006 05:49 (eighteen years ago) link

I love that Vejtables comp! years ago on the street in philly i bought a copy for a dollar (along with the fapardokly cd) and it has been a fave of mine ever since. i never go too long without playing it. traded the fapardokly in ages ago though. maybe i shouldn't have. i might like some of it more now.

Who is doing the lead vocal on the Vejtables clip? You see people take bits of backing vocal, but it goes all the way through, and nobody seem to be doing it! Thought the big guy who didn't seem to know what to do with his hands had forgotten to mime, but then he pulls out his harmonica and starts in, and the voice just keeps on going!

Great clip, though, perhaps even more so because of this!

And the version of "Astronomy Domine" with Syd upthread is tons better than this one, although it's still cool.

"And Fleetwood Mac at the Playboy Mansion!! Youtube just keeps on giving and giving."

And such an appropriate song too! ;-) There used to a "Playboy After Dark" clip up of Deep Purple (Mark I line-up) that included Richie Blackmore giving Hef a brief guitar lesson between the songs (some instrumental & "Hush").

Chairman Doinel (Charles McCain), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 15:46 (eighteen years ago) link

That was a good'n, too. I saw another Playboy After Dark with Harry Nilsson. Did Hef have great taste, or can we chalk it up to hip producers? Perhaps a "Playboy After Dark" dvd is in order (if there's not one already?)
