almost all nz music beyond FN, and Ive never seen that Aussie band "You am I" mentioned amongat many but thats the "biggest" band I could think of. Singer songwriter types dont seem to be mentioned but I dont read here much so maybe they do...Sean Penn, Blue Mountain, Fiona Apple,Ed Harcourt, Lucinda Williams,Chris Issak, Elliot Smith, Josh Rouse,Micheal Petak, Tom Mc Rae, Victoria Williams,Kathryn Williams,Ron Sexsmith, T Bone Burnett ..

Kiwi, Tuesday, 28 January 2003 09:43 (twenty-one years ago) link

I haven't used the search so I could be wrong about the following, but picking up on Martine's constraint game, how about the following big big stars:
Slim Smith/ Uniques
the Tennors
Prince Far-I
Johnny Clarke
The Melodians
Freddie McGregor
Toyan
Wailing Souls
Jacob Miller / Inner Circle
Jah Stitch
Clint Eastwood & General Saint

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 10:10 (twenty-one years ago) link

i'm pretty sure Elliot Smith has got some decent coverage here, but I have to agree that the rest of Kiwi's list shows some significant oversights..

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 8 December 2003 00:58 (twenty years ago) link

Btw. I don't consider any of the acts mentioned about "local" artists, but "regional" maybe, as they are only known in Scandinavia. Most of them have sold bucketloads of records in Scandinavia though, mainly to people with a complete lack of taste ;)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 8 December 2003 01:02 (twenty years ago) link

I think I probably just "mentioned" about 40 in my 500 CD thread.

Marc Seberg (I searched and he was barely mentioned only once)

I was going to say Belfegore, but then I searched and like 500 posts from Alex in NYC came up (most in bold with the name repeated multiple times).
