My band's (Kid Congo & The Pink Monkey Birds) record, " Philosophy And Underwear" is out on October 17th in Europe/UK but it's now available through the iTunes Store for the globe. I played "Texture & Electronics" on the thing, co-mixed and co-produced as part of the band. Got Captain Comatose and Annie Anxiety on there and I think it's a smashing recording. Hope you all who purchase it enjoy it.

We're playing all over Europe and most of the UK from 10.28 to 12.5 this year. Would love to meet fellow Ilxers if I happen across your town. Let me know where you are and I'll tell you if we'll be in the vicinity.

Ned - we don't have a US distro deal as of yet. One label was excited about putting it out over here but they've sort of slinked away. So - iTunes is the only means of getting it here in the US for now (unless you buy the import CD). I've only got one promo copy of the album myself!

Crazy! But I shall keep it in mind. :-)

Ha, to clarify -- Captain Jay Vee is his own good soul but yes, he was playing with Kid Congo at the time.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 11 May 2013 16:55 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah search engine tells me that I am not the first poster to do this.

Anyways, great line in that article (from Ian Svenonius) : He loves garage rock because it is the ancient language that's pure and beautiful. But, not like, 'everything should be the way it was in 1963.'"

Thanks. Kid was spinning a bunch of great obscure songs that night referenced in the article. This was interesting too: Kid plays guitar in the same bluesy, open-tuning style Jeffrey Lee Pierce taught him when they formed The Gun Club;

ten years pass...

Ten years later I just saw Kid Congo do a book talk in DC interviewed by Joe Lally from Fugazi. He talked about how he got into music when he was young, sewing and making own clothes to go to Rodney Bingenheimer’s glam dance club thing, starting a Ramones zine, meeting Jeffrey Lee Pierce in line to see Pere Ubu, working at record stores, how he joined the Cramps and how charismatic and wonderful Lux was onstage and more .
