House of Cards*>Game of Thrones>True Detective>Boardwalk Empire**>Mad Men***>Hannibal=The Americans

Doctor Who fittingly exists outside the continuum as it's so wildly inconsistent.

*I'm only half a season in and straight in at the top. Absolute class.

**Would've been lower a couple of seasons ago.

***Would've been higher a couple of seasons ago.

As of their most recent/ongoing seasons; no concluded series/minis

Rectify > The Americans > The Good Wife > Justified > GoT > Mad Men > Hannibal > The Fall > Orphan Black > True Detective > Broadchurch > Boardwalk Empire

watched s1 of HoC and the s2 premiere; stopped there, for good.

From the Sundance roster I think Rectify is easily their best show, I would go as far as saying it is the best new American drama type series since Six Feet Deep, it is THAT good imo.

Warning: I do watch a lot of television and do not always discriminate against the trash stuff, so this ain't a pretty list!

The Americans > Hannibal > The Walking Dead > Black Sails > The Plantagenets > Justified :( > Vikings > Helix > Banshee > Cosmos > Revolution > Continuum > The Originals > The 100

Edit: Forgot about S.H.I.E.L.D, that would be between Justified and Vikings.

i don't really feel like i'm following any frou-frou short-season prestige cable shows, even though i will get around to watching them eventually. (including basic cable ones if i've ever been into them.) they're just too intermittent and sparse. hannibal is the only exception to that, it still feels kind of networky (maybe just b/c of omg this is on tv).

proper followable shows last like half the year and have > 20 episodes per season and tuck their miniscule character and plot developments into 10-second stretches of episodic narratives (or are NONSTOP PLOT like scandal)

so

hannibal > the good wife > elementary > person of interest > the mentalist* > scandal

*not as interesting to watch for about the last three seasons, since he shot josh lyman maybe, but it used to be my favorite and it's hard to screw up a procedural, so i remain attached to it even tho scandal is obviously more something than it. they've been trying out some interesting adjustments since they let him find and kill red john, but apparently cbs isn't bringing it back so there won't be any time to settle in with them. too bad, i like it when shows completely rejigger their setups partway through.

i wouldn't mind following some more, but tv seems kind of in a lull.

The Good Wife is having their best season yet, I think.

three weeks pass...

House of Cards has slipped down a few notches thanks to its vastly inferior second season, and The Americans has overtaken the increasingly ludicrous Hannibal.

After the new Game of Thrones and Mad Men eps on monday I am going to watch Fargo tonight, The Americans tomorrow. What an age of television ( ̄ー ̄) I really love this shit and don't care how degenerate it makes me look being completely fucking addicted to it.

i just wanna watch 50 more seasons of law & order, fuck this boutique middlebrow bullshit

thrones > rectify > the americans > hannibal > true detective > masters of sex >>>> justified > mad men > boardwalk empire*

* (have not watched most recent season)

really enjoyed the fargo pilot and would put it towards the top if it keeps on at that level.

Watched the first two episodes of Masters of Sex and enjoyed them, but kind of forgot to watch any more. Might try and catch up, I do like Sheen.

ten months pass...

I think this is right at the moment:

Hannibal > Happy Valley > The Americans > Game of Thrones > The Returned (Original) > Black Sails > True Detective > Justified > Better Call Saul > Fargo > The Knick > The Affair > How To Get Away with Murder > 12 Monkeys > The Strain > Masters of Sex > Homeland > Mad Men > Outlander > Orphan Black > Blacklist > Gotham > SHIELD

whole buncha other stuff i need to watch to slot in there tho.

Maybe in 100 years someone will say damn Dawn was dope. (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 5 March 2015 21:13 (nine years ago) link

True Detective > Better Call Saul > Agent Carter > SHIELD > Justified > Orphan Black > Doctor Who > Arrow (just started working through season 1) >>> Fargo

Nothing I'm totally head over heels about at the moment. Don't think I'll be returning to Fargo but I guess it remains to be seen since it'll basically be a whole new show. I saw the first few episodes of Hannibal and dug it but I'm going to plow through the whole thing in earnest one of these days.
