how did kroll show get laura dern

johnny crunch, Sunday, 16 March 2014 01:34 (ten years ago) link

I'm really liking Resurrection, even having watched Les Revenants earlier last year. It's a different story rather than a remake, and done pretty well for ABC imo.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 24 March 2014 22:27 (ten years ago) link

resurrection has nothing to do with les revenants aside from its premise, the english adaptation is being done by paul abbott

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Tuesday, 25 March 2014 02:43 (ten years ago) link

kroll show finale was def influenced by Ryan Trecartin, philly video artiste

Has anyone watched that Turn show on AMC? I probably don't have the time to pick up anything new, but it seems mildly intriguing.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 16 April 2014 23:28 (ten years ago) link

Watched the pilot, was bored

Simon H., Wednesday, 16 April 2014 23:30 (ten years ago) link

how could it be anything but boring with Jamie Bell? New Orphan Black coming so who cares?

xelab, Thursday, 17 April 2014 00:05 (ten years ago) link

I actually like Bell a lot but it was just really lame and predictable and sloooooow-moving

Yay for new OB and Louie in the next few weeks

Simon H., Thursday, 17 April 2014 00:17 (ten years ago) link

did anyone watch the fargo pilot?

jbn, Thursday, 17 April 2014 00:24 (ten years ago) link

Yeah, I did. Didn't care much for it. Too heavy on the oh-golly mannerisms without the qualities that the Coens brought to the original that made it great.

in the last silicon valley episode, the encounter between peter and gavin was brilliant. loved the obvious pleasure gavin found in prolonging the discussion, the enjoyment he got from peter squirming more and more as it went on.

Anyone else curious about "Penny Dreadful"? Sounds like an Alan Moore mashup.

trophy wife cancelled :(

balls, Friday, 9 May 2014 17:11 (ten years ago) link

I had a dream last night that Community was canceled. Jim Rash and Gillian Jacobs were at my apartment waiting for the phone call, and hugs and tears followed.

Also, this doesn't sound good: http://uproxx.com/tv/2014/05/is-community-about-to-be-cancelled-uh-looks-like-it/

Johnny Fever, Friday, 9 May 2014 17:13 (ten years ago) link

it'd be a shame but i kinda want to see harmon do something else, i was intrigued to see what he might do w/ a final season of community but i wasn't that stoked to see what he'd do w/ just another season of community, definitely felt like he might of run out of ideas or stories for these characters.

balls, Friday, 9 May 2014 17:18 (ten years ago) link

trophy wife cancelled :(
very sad about this. what's even sadder: mixology had better ratings

Nhex, Friday, 9 May 2014 17:41 (ten years ago) link

man i just want to preface this post by saying i'm disgusted by myself as well but for the past few months until just this past week i had this intern working for me in the lab that looked remarkably like malin akerman only more voluptuous and obv younger and at times it could be distracting

balls, Friday, 9 May 2014 17:50 (ten years ago) link

anyway trophy wife shoulda been on between the middle and modern family and shoulda been named something besides trophy wife

balls, Friday, 9 May 2014 17:54 (ten years ago) link

I can confirm I didn't watch it because I thought it was Cougartown, only renamed.

Call the Doctorb, the B is for Brownstein (Leee), Friday, 9 May 2014 18:04 (ten years ago) link

trophy wife was great - disappointing news :(

RIP Community http://tvline.com/2014/05/09/community-cancelled-nbc-season-6/

Good time to end tbh, it was reaching South Park levels of didacticism

Herbie Handcock (Murgatroid), Friday, 9 May 2014 18:37 (ten years ago) link

community cancelled

xpost

balls, Friday, 9 May 2014 18:40 (ten years ago) link

i could sorta imagine it picking up a final 'season' (ie ~12 episodes) at netflix/comedy central/tbs though. still, if it was between this or hannibal being renewed i'm glad it was hannibal.

balls, Friday, 9 May 2014 18:42 (ten years ago) link

cosign. community hasn't been essential viewing since season 3

Mordy, Friday, 9 May 2014 18:44 (ten years ago) link

suburgatory cancelled, which i'm not nearly as sad about as i might've once been

suburgatory had a rough season - they seemed to have stalled narratively

Mordy, Friday, 9 May 2014 19:33 (ten years ago) link

stalled is putting kindly

Another spring, another day where NBC kills most of the shows they tried. In addition to Community, they just killed Revolution, Crisis, Believe and Growing Up Fisher (on top of the seven or eight other shows that didn't even make it to spring).

Johnny Fever, Friday, 9 May 2014 20:45 (ten years ago) link

Kinda sad about surviving jack - only saw pilot but meloni was hitting some interesting notes as a sitcom dad. Glad growing up fisher hit the axe, as Jk Simmons was basically playing a smug psychopath so far in denial he'd risk killing his family before acknowledging his disability.

da croupier, Friday, 9 May 2014 20:48 (ten years ago) link

Shit, I've been following Revolution. With only two left for this season, I assume it's not "finalized" at all. Do producers generally make versions of the last show of each season that could serve as a closer, if needed?

nickn, Friday, 9 May 2014 20:53 (ten years ago) link

Crisis was dumb but surprisingly watchable

chillin' on an "awesome pretzel" hoagie (DJP), Friday, 9 May 2014 20:53 (ten years ago) link

Both fisher and trophy wife struck me as a fundamentally disingenuous about divorce (though wife did have good cast and jokes) - having a hard time thinking of a comedy that had one (or two) central to the concept and really did right by it, let alone did well.

da croupier, Friday, 9 May 2014 20:54 (ten years ago) link

feels like network sitcoms are really stuck with more talent in front of the camera than behind the camera lately -- you get all these people like J.K. Simmons, Will Arnett, Chris Meloni, even Bradley Whitford who seem perfectly capable of picking a good project and carrying it and they end up on these shows that just stink of failure from the title and the premise on down.

some dude, Friday, 9 May 2014 20:59 (ten years ago) link

it's sad but my brightest hope for sitcoms at the moment is that USA is doing a bunch and just picked up Eliza Coupe and Billy Eichner vehicle.

some dude, Friday, 9 May 2014 21:00 (ten years ago) link

vehicleS, referring to 2 different shows.

some dude, Friday, 9 May 2014 21:00 (ten years ago) link

From what I've seen will arnett is the weakest part of we're the millers - admittedly cuz he spends the show going "I've made a terrible mistake" while the rest of the cast goes all-in on farting (a preferable choice if you find yourself in a wacky multi-cam, IMO).

da croupier, Friday, 9 May 2014 21:03 (ten years ago) link

Revolution was steadily improving and it is a shame it didn't make the cut because I have become quite fond of it, despite it not being particularly great. Certainly won't miss Believe, absolute rinse that CuarĂ³n should be embarrassed to be linked with.

under the cobblestones, le dogshit (xelab), Friday, 9 May 2014 21:08 (ten years ago) link

Fascinated they haven't canceled Black Book, a show about how dangerous but sexy and rewarding it is to be manic depressive.

da croupier, Friday, 9 May 2014 21:20 (ten years ago) link

I will say re black book, at least it doesn't just exist atop a potentially offensive concept, but loudly trumpets the stance - it's pretty balls out for network tv

da croupier, Friday, 9 May 2014 21:21 (ten years ago) link

Critically savaged and reviled as offensive garbage by mental health professionals, but this is what the people want :(

under the cobblestones, le dogshit (xelab), Friday, 9 May 2014 21:29 (ten years ago) link

arnett seems miscast for the millers, have only seen the ads (and boy have i seen them) but character seems more michael bluth than gob

balls, Friday, 9 May 2014 22:35 (ten years ago) link

Kinda sucks about Revolution. I didn't watch it, but since they moved production to Texas, many friends and acquaintances had found work as crew and extras/stand ins on the show.

Damnit Janet Weiss & The Riot Grrriel (C. Grisso/McCain), Friday, 9 May 2014 22:53 (ten years ago) link

Arnett was kind of a dull straight man in Up All Night and Running Wilde too. maybe it's just hard to get a starring role where you get to be a weirdo like GOB or Devon Banks but it seems like he's just ignoring his strong suits.

some dude, Friday, 9 May 2014 23:10 (ten years ago) link

best batman since keaton

balls, Friday, 9 May 2014 23:16 (ten years ago) link

black book is incredibly campy but also just sorta plain bad.

wat is teh waht (s.clover), Monday, 12 May 2014 20:02 (ten years ago) link

the first time we saw a commercial for Black Box, my wife waited until the final lingering shot on the lead actress's face and turned to me and said "I bet you a million dollars her box isn't black"

I don't think anything on the show can ever live up to that
