Anyone seen this show: http://www.bravotv.com/100-days-of-summer ?

It's horrible. Sort of entertaining, in a OMG where the fuck did they find all these douchbags? I think they shipped in out of LA actors to play the roles. Plus it makes me really miss summer.

Jeff, Thursday, 9 January 2014 13:06 (ten years ago) link

The extent to which I find that website unhelpful as far as telling me what that show is actually about makes me feel about 87 years old.

Anyway, what is that show actually about? A reality show set in Chicago in the summer? The fact that I would totally watch that just for the setting alone is another reason why I'm glad we don't have cable.

Like, "That commercial doesn't even say what the product is! What is this even about?"

It's a reality show about dbags who just love summer in Chicago. Just watch the clips. I recommend playpen.

Jeff, Thursday, 9 January 2014 14:22 (ten years ago) link

What was with that disorienting tri-panel effect in that weather piece?

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 9 January 2014 14:25 (ten years ago) link

Well that was terrible. I like that one guy's assumption that being in real estate development means that he's not into douchey things.

that's video guys trying to get creative when dealing with cellphone footage shot vertically instead of horizontally

noble pursuit

mh, Thursday, 9 January 2014 16:11 (ten years ago) link

It's become a common effect, especially in the news.

I haven't decided whether it's good b/c it's "prettier" than black boxes or if feeling like you're missing out of focus action on the sides is too distracting.

got this super sweet email from the gov

Dear Friend,

As I prepare to lay out plans to continue moving Illinois forward in 2014 and beyond, four right wing Republicans are busy talking about their schemes to drag us backwards.

All four Republicans oppose my plan to raise the minimum wage to at least $10 an hour in Illinois. One of them - a billionaire at that - even announced his proposal to slash the minimum wage by $1 an hour, taking $2,000 a year out of the pockets of those earning the least, which is cruel, heartless and wrong.

These guys have all the compassion of C. Montgomery Burns.

In America, if you work hard and play by the rules, you shouldn't have to live in poverty. People should be rewarded for their work, not punished.

Putting more money into the pockets of those who are living paycheck to paycheck is not only the right and decent thing to do, it's good for the economy. Everyday people don't admire the extra money they earn in the bank - they spend it in the local community, creating more jobs.

As long as I'm Governor, I will never stop fighting until we raise the minimum wage in Illinois. Click here to get involved in my campaign.

Full speed ahead in 2014.

Your friend,

Governor Quinn

mambo jumbo (La Lechera), Thursday, 9 January 2014 17:13 (ten years ago) link

I'd vote for any governor that makes a Simpson reference. You got vote Pat!

Jeff, Thursday, 9 January 2014 18:50 (ten years ago) link

Given his animosity towards AFSCME and his own employees, I find some of that disingenuous (a politician??? Disingenuous???) but it's not like I would everrrrrr vote for a Republican gov so whatever.

carl agatha, Thursday, 9 January 2014 18:59 (ten years ago) link

guys I've spent the last 3 minutes witnessing a Chicago cop in a marked SUV try to free himself from a snowbank on my street, almost hitting a stop sign, a car, and another cop in the process

it's beautiful

I'm 2 for 3 on push-outs this year.

I heard a majority of CPD SUVs are 2WD which is totally lol in the winter.

mh, Friday, 10 January 2014 06:50 (ten years ago) link

I bet she was sore the next day! Bless her.

We've got a new washing machine! It's all fancy and HE and has actual working temperature controls and a real delicate cycle.

carl agatha, Friday, 10 January 2014 21:14 (ten years ago) link

xp I was at sisut's family's place over the holidays and I swear their washer/dryer combo has some kind of wifi connectivity.

Ugh and the appliance guy wore his boots to walk through the house.

carl agatha, Friday, 10 January 2014 23:13 (ten years ago) link

Okay, can we go back to the -40 degree weather now? It doesn't seem all that bad in light of Slushpocalypse. Seriously considered just going ahead and taking my effing shoes off on the way home this evening.

Greasy Wallet (Old Lunch), Saturday, 11 January 2014 00:10 (ten years ago) link

i for one hope we get some more sub-zero weather, and not only because i just got my down coat

mh, Saturday, 11 January 2014 00:30 (ten years ago) link

I wear 8" water proof boots. Slush is no problem. It's snow dying and I enjoy it.

mh, Tuesday, 14 January 2014 16:41 (ten years ago) link

Only one that is relevant for me is the one off of Fullerton becoming a Whole Foods, which is great. Well it will be if they have a bar.

bnw, Tuesday, 14 January 2014 17:34 (ten years ago) link

|$̲̅(̲̅ιοο̲̅)̲̅$̲̅| (gr8080), Tuesday, 14 January 2014 17:35 (ten years ago) link

worth booking an appointment, the sales/management staff are cool people and will be realistic about your budget, etc

|$̲̅(̲̅ιοο̲̅)̲̅$̲̅| (gr8080), Tuesday, 14 January 2014 17:36 (ten years ago) link

http://www.dankhaus.com/ was our first choice for a Chicago wedding before we decided on a destination wedding.

dan m, Tuesday, 14 January 2014 17:40 (ten years ago) link

I've also been to a wedding at the Ravenswood center and it was pretty classy.

dan m, Tuesday, 14 January 2014 17:40 (ten years ago) link

Jeff and I got married at marriage court in the county building in the Loop. So cheap it was free.

We had our reception at the Hopleaf which really was cheap - two (three?) hours of open bar and a really nice selection of food for I think 25 people (maybe 30?) for about $2k. I don't know if they still do that kind of private party anymore or if it would still be that cheap. This was in 2005, pre Check Please and remodel.

IME the best way to get married on the cheap was to keep it small.

carl agatha, Tuesday, 14 January 2014 17:48 (ten years ago) link

jaymc and NA and their brides both got married in lovely locations that I think were budget minded, but they'll have to say where bc I forgot.

carl agatha, Tuesday, 14 January 2014 17:50 (ten years ago) link

i just looked at this place for my brother's rehearsal dinner. their private party room is pretty great, but only big enough for about 45 guests total, and the food costs are way way lower than most event spaces:

|$̲̅(̲̅ιοο̲̅)̲̅$̲̅| (gr8080), Tuesday, 14 January 2014 17:54 (ten years ago) link

Big Bricks is good. I would get married there.

Private party rooms in restaurants are good bc you don't have to rent a bunch of chairs and plates and crap.
