Bryan Singer, who helmed the first two superb installments that launched the franchise at Fox and whom Deadline was first to reveal will helm X-Men: Days of Future Past, has just Tweeted the following news:

“I’d like to officially welcome back James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender and Nicholas Hoult to X-Men: Days Of Future Past. Also thrilled to announce Sir Ian Mckellen and Sir Patrick Stewart.”

How is that going to work with the actors playing both Magneto and Professor Xavier, in the same movie with Fassbender and McAvoy, who played those characters as young men in X-Men: First Class? “The movie is called X-Men: Days of Future Past, use your imagination,” Singer tells me.

Presumably this means a four way orgy oh wait.

first class was awfully good, getting both eras together like this seems more like a third movie thing than a second one.

It's really going to depend on how they adapt DOFP to the movie universe; the less actual overlap between the past and future eras, the better.

the movie was terrible but watching emo Cyke get vaporised is one of my most treasured film experiences

he was actually vaporised due to the fact he had little shooting time and was cast in that mediocre Superman movie

First Class was better than 3, but they both suuuuucked, though for different reasons. I liked Magneto: Nazi Hunter, just like in another universe I liked David: Space Dodderer, but man, I did not otherwise think Fassbinder did a good job. His strainin'-my-brain Magneto moves looked like he was taking a big dump in his pants.

Loved this. Couldn't give a shit about continuity with the other movies. The Quicksilver set-piece and the Zapruder-style footage of Magneto and Raven fighting are the kind of flourishes that superhero movies need more of. Strong performances too - pretty sweet that they have actors as good as McAvoy, Fassbender and Lawrence for the central not-quite-love triangle.

Wished the future-set scenes, and numerous other conspicuous FX sequences, weren't so butt-ugly. Like, even when I'm watching this at home in two dimensions, I know that I'm watching something that was made for 3D.

The Terminator came out after the original story though! Cameron might've got the idea from Claremont and Byrne for all we know.

Maisie Williams was just cast as Wolfsbane in the upcoming New Mutants movie (which I somehow only heard about for the first time this week). That might be the most perfectly spot-on X-Men casting decision since Kelsey Grammer's brief tenure as Beast.

And as a huge X-Men fan can I just say, as it sounds like they're going with the old school roster, that I'm 1000000000x more excited about a New Mutants movie than I have been about any of the X-Men movies. Seriously, if Warlock is in this thing I might pretty much just die.
