son of a lewd monk (Dr Morbius), Monday, 15 September 2014 16:50 (nine years ago) link

i've never seen it all through tbf but obviously it's always going to be notable

Daphnis Celesta, Monday, 15 September 2014 16:51 (nine years ago) link

I saw it at MoMA for the second time ever yesterday, and I find some complaints about it silly. The plot and love triangle -- you might as well bitch about Star Wars; the aerial stunts are still incredible.

also, Chas "Buddy" Rogers, what a dish.

son of a lewd monk (Dr Morbius), Monday, 22 September 2014 20:38 (nine years ago) link

Seems like I have too.

I just discovered a massive vault of jpeg stills on my laptop. Apparently my DVD program has been saving images from chapter stops. A lot of them are useless, but some would good fodder for this thread.

New York City, 1971--these are all good guesses. It's The Possession of Joel Delaney. I've never seen it, but I came across this great still online of Shirley MacLaine in a cab, went ahead and ordered a copy.

Hah, have seen POJD. Interesting movie - first twenty minutes or so almost play like a Woody Allen movie (w/out the overt comedy) before the supernatural theme is introduced. There is also a slightly transgressive child abuse angle that would be swiftly excised from any modern remake. Directed by the man who also directed the first ever episode of Doctor Who episode!

sʌxihɔːl (Ward Fowler), Friday, 14 August 2015 14:21 (eight years ago) link

When I came across that still, I was actually looking for a still from Desperate Characters--also New York City, 1971. I think there might be a poll there.

clemenza, Friday, 14 August 2015 14:23 (eight years ago) link

huh odd that I've never heard of that one given the period and Maclaine and the setting, which are all things I love

Οὖτις, Friday, 14 August 2015 15:32 (eight years ago) link
