I'm 10-15 too. Opera lets you group 'em so I can hide my batch of always opens (gmail, twitter, etc) and concentrate on the new links on hand, etc. It's nice.

Sometimes as many as a dozen when I'm catching up on newsfeeds/blogs/etc. in the morning. My PC chugs like a steam engine though, so usually not more than 3 or 4.

Also because Chrome doesn't sandbox tabs as much as claimed, particularly Flash components, so something crashing on one tab can affect others.

I HAVE ALL THE TABS. ALL THE TABS ARE MINE

I just keep opening them until they no longer get a favicon in Chrome (25-30 on my laptop?) and then I can't see what they are any more. Then I admit to myself that I am probably not actually going to read them all and I start to close them unread, or just go to bed and give up on them. Sometimes I leave them open when I go to bed and let them all reopen the next day and let the guilt start again.

Sigh.

I always feel like in one of the 20 unread or not-quite-finished tabs there might be a little nugget of vital information, e.g. the one blast of eye-opening instant knowledge that will show me how to be a better, more productive person.

Of course the real key to being a more productive person would be not to open 30 tabs at once and read all the internet all evening, but that doesn't seem to occur to me.

wait do tabs still disappear when you close browsers? Do you guys just leave it on/in sleep mode all the time? I know I am a broken record about this but not only does Opera do tab stacking (so I can group 2-50+ tabs in one tab slot) but it saves everything for my next reboot.. I only use Opera so I'd no idea how the others have let the tab lovers down!

I usually run Firefox on my Windows laptop, and it becomes unstable and crashes alot when too many tabs are open. A planded Firefox upgrade is slated to improve performance when 20+ tabs are open.

My multi-tab pet peeve: when one of your 20 open tabs (usually when first opening your browser) starts blaring noise and I can't figure out which tab has a video window that automatically starts when you visit that page. Is there a detection plugin for this?

What's the advantage of opening a new window vs. new tabs?

i also never shut down my laptop and hate it when my browser crashes and for some reason it bugs and cannot reopen all tabs

in Firefox, search for the files "sessionstore.js" and "prefs.js", and make backup copies of them occasionally. If Firefox can't reopen your tabs after it crashes, close firefox, copy the latest versions of your backups of those two files to the folder where firefox normally keeps them, and restart firefox. Your tabs will reappear.
