There were a few "how dare they" type comments on the TV this morning, assuaged by the fact that they do seem to be raising money for charity in doing this.
Then again, if someone wants to buy one of these (8,000 limited edition things) for a good portion of the price of a house..

lolz me that with bids starting at £63,000.00, they still want an extra £20 to cover postage

They should just jog round to your house with it really.

I haven't eBayed in awhile - they used to put the starting bid right above the current bid.
Got thrown off by the ---- at the top, which is where the starting bid used to be, didn't see the "96 bids".

People keep breaking or stealing the $10 tiki lights in my yard. What am I going to do with a £63,000 Olympic torch?

See "Bid History"...

The guy who newly signed up for eBay to bid £210 must be disappointed

37 mins to go, £97K the so-far total...

Almost certain that these are spoiler bids with no intention of paying. Same thing happened when people tried selling WTC memoribilia shortly after 9/11. Seller will be bricking themselves when a 10 grand final value fee comes through.

Charity auctions where 100% of the proceeds go to charity don't have fees.
― Chewshabadoo, Monday, 21 May 2012 14:00 (1 year ago) Permalink
Yes, but it has to be flagged as a charity auction to do that.

Possibly worth mugging one or two of the runners en route imo.

They won't be dark if they've got a torch, silly.
