er hoos

what's ksh?

the late great, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 02:07 (eleven years ago) link

occupy kush

Steve Youngblood (dan m), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 02:22 (eleven years ago) link

haha occupy ksh

K St is the home (in the sense that Wall St is the "home") of the lobbying firms and think tanks. When DC set up its encampment we were at McPherson Square, at the intersection of 15th and K, a block from the White House. It's effectively "the other end of the pipeline of bullshit."

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 03:49 (eleven years ago) link

its a koan

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 04:42 (eleven years ago) link

i know what kush is. never heard anyone call it ksh. i feel like i'm missing something here, maybe i'm just overthinking it.

you know in sd the occupy thing got completely hijacked by the mmj people which i understand is a valid concern but it definitely didn't do the movement (either one) any favors. in fact i'll go so far as to say that a hell of a lot of mmj activists in san diego do more harm than good to their cause.

the late great, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 04:44 (eleven years ago) link

think maybe i mentioned this upthread though

the late great, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 04:44 (eleven years ago) link

looks like i even used "hijacked" up there too

the late great, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 04:46 (eleven years ago) link

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 05:03 (eleven years ago) link

i had never seen "mmj" before, that is a fun little abbreviation. is it common on the west coast?

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 05:04 (eleven years ago) link

thank you biggest hoos

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 16 May 2012 05:05 (eleven years ago) link

excited for all my friends going to NATO. i'd almost found a way--"free" bus--but i would've been otherwise relying on the kindness of strangers for food etc--payday, unfortunately, is ~next~ friday.

feels like its gonna be something i'll wish i was at later

The thoughts are v much appreciated guys, I know I coulda made it work if I'd planned right.

@occupykst successfully now owned and operated by me and 3 badass women w/serious online organizing skills, humbled to share the userID with them.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Thursday, 17 May 2012 17:53 (eleven years ago) link

recent SFBG article on Occupy SFer recently arrested during that building eviction for throwing a rock at a cop is one of the saddest things I've read in years - basically crazy homeless vet w/drug problems and poor (if any) grasp of politics. can't find it online for some reason.

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 17 May 2012 17:55 (eleven years ago) link

Been doing a lot of thinking lately about whether ''mere" (politically incoherent) anger is useless or not, whether one needs to have a technocrat's understanding of policy to validate the frustrated throwing of a rock. there's a strain of thought I've been encountering lately that suggests that the above is an "elitist" way of thinking, that requiring elaborate theoretical analyses from the angry for their rage is classist, that "~any riot is a good riot~." I don't buy it, but I can't put my finger on why.

This isn't directed at u btw shakey you just touched on stuff thats bouncing in my head.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Thursday, 17 May 2012 18:15 (eleven years ago) link

no worries that had occurred to me too but this guy's story is just so disheartening - really his arrest is just one in a long litany of run-ins with the law, multiple stints in prison, etc. The guy is schizophrenic (hears voices, the whole bit), had a meth problem, blacks out and gets violent, in and out of institutions his whole life. That he got wrapped up in Occupy is just some marriage of convenience, and it's a bummer. It's not just his politics that are incoherent, it's his anger, his worldview, his whole life.

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 17 May 2012 18:18 (eleven years ago) link

any social justice movement's goals in regards to him would be to get him help and take care of him, not to make a martyr out of him by putting him on the front lines of a protest where he will come into conflict with cops

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 17 May 2012 18:20 (eleven years ago) link

I should really find that story arghh...

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 17 May 2012 18:20 (eleven years ago) link

there need to be at least some people who can do elaborate theoretical analysis and attempt to explain their conclusions to people less interested in or equipped for that kind of thing; these i guess are what you call leaders (the l-word!) and occupy has plenty of them whether it admits it or not; but as far as people being "incoherently" angry, i mean, fucking good that people are angry; i hope they get angrier; and as long as they can memorize a few keywords (collateralized debt obligation!) and get it basically straight who's screwing them (which a lot of people already know anyway) i don't really mind if they haven't read all three volumes of capital. i mean i'm one of them. (if anything this seems like an elitist way of thinking, since it shruggingly accepts that not everyone is gonna be a scholar. but scholars can't revolt by themselves.)

obv different thing from this case which is just :( yeah.

good men like my father, or president truman (difficult listening hour), Thursday, 17 May 2012 18:32 (eleven years ago) link

(realize that "read all three volumes of capital" is an ad absurdum cartoon of the level of political engagement you're talking about, since who does that, but still.)

good men like my father, or president truman (difficult listening hour), Thursday, 17 May 2012 18:35 (eleven years ago) link

as far as people being "incoherently" angry, i mean, fucking good that people are angry; i hope they get angrier;

I was referring to the fact that this guy was incoherently angry to begin with - he blacks out and assaults people. He's a crazed transient. His engagement with Occupy's rhetoric goes no farther than obsessing over the oath he took to "defend the Constitution" as a member of the US Army, and the fact that the Patriot Act is bad. Also people are taking away his rights. It's like sub-Tea Party stuff.

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 17 May 2012 19:04 (eleven years ago) link

no i know i was talking about hoos' general concerns

good men like my father, or president truman (difficult listening hour), Thursday, 17 May 2012 19:05 (eleven years ago) link

part of the reason i'm so excited about chicago (which, if i can get a ride by tomorrow, i may still be doing?) is that it's finally creating an opportunity to more explicitly make the connections between low intensity class warfare of attrition at home and the war machine abroad
