15 i think were arrested in my group, 22 or so more in an earlier action at wells fargo and i'm sure others throughout the day. they took us to a parking garage somewhere i assumed was a cia black site and let most of us go with citations, but i'm an idiot and had looked at my wallet that morning and thought "lol i don't have any cash, i don't even have any money in my bank account, what kind of grandiose delusion is it to carry around a wallet" and left it behind, so i didn't have my ID, so i went to jail, cuz apparently you go to jail if you don't have your ID. a few other guys did too -- most because they had priors; one for the same reason as me -- as did the girl in the pepper-spray photo above, as far as i could tell just for being pepper-sprayed.

we did an earlier thing at bank of america but they locked their doors in time so we just sat outside for a while and sloganed while they yelled "GET A JOB" through the glass. some wag in a suit inside put up a sign saying PLEASE USE OTHER DOOR so i put one up facing in saying PLEASE USE OTHER SOURCE OF GAMBLING FUNDS and he mouthed "that's pretty good" through the glass. they won though because eventually we just left.
oh and somebody commandeered the pompous flagpoles outside of wells fargo and ran up 1) an inverted american flag (totally feel this in the distress-signal sense but probably not the best idea from a PR standpoint oh well) and 2) an OCCUPY banner, which was pretty cool. made the news. the inverted american flag, i mean. of course.

I walked around, and put up signs in there offering money to rent out an apartment for a few hours.
I spoke with her on the phone, and a few days later went over and met her. I told her what I wanted to do, and she was enthused. The more I described, the more excited she got.
She wouldn’t take my money. That was the day of the eviction of Zuccotti, the same day. And she’d been listening to the news all day, she saw everything that had happened.
“I can’t charge you money, this is for the people,” she said.

its slickly put together and in my book is relatively on point in its politics, but knowing the people behind it (and the fact that after their noisy little internet coup they're suddenly very quiet on the site about who they are) i'm a little leery.

and i have to admit there's something in me that finds the idea of, basically, an anarchist americorp appealing. what they're talking about isn't so different from the politics and practice that drove the Common Ground Relief Collective after Katrina in New Orleans, or obviously the Panthers' Service to the People Programs, and i've always admired, learned from, and sought to model the people behind those things.

Monday, September 22nd9amGather @ Battery Park
On Monday, September 22nd at 9:00 am, thousands of people will gather at Battery Park in Lower Manhattan to confront the root cause of the climate crisis - an economic system based on exploiting frontline communities, workers and natural resources. On the heels of the largest-ever march on climate change, we have an opportunity to transform the economic system driving this crisis.
Wearing blue to represent the sea that surrounds us, we rise to the steps of the NY Stock Exchange at 12:00 pm, flooding the area with our bodies in a massive sit-in - a collective act of nonviolent civil disobedience - to confront the system that both causes and profits from the crisis that is threatening humanity.
There is no time to waste - Wall Street must be transformed. Through the power of people taking collective action we will build an economy based on justice and sustainability and stop the climate crisis.
Full call to action and information here: http://floodwallstreet.net
9 AM - Gather @ Battery Park - Breakfast and Music from Rude Mechanical Orchestra9:30 AM - Speakers - including frontline community leaders of the Climate Justice Alliance, Naomi Klein, Rebecca Solnit and Chris Hedges11 AM -- Nonviolent Direct Action Training & March12 PM -- Flood Wall St. and mass Sit-in

Freddie deBoer:
I’m regularly accused of believing things that I’ve never said and don’t believe. That’s largely a facet of the fact that, on the internet today, arguing with people is really a matter of misrepresenting what they’re saying and then attacking the misrepresentation. One of the most constant of these is that I say “both parties are the same.” I’ve never said that. Ever. In my life. But over time, the claims of friends who do say that have been vindicated over and over again.
By that I mean something very simple: my communist friends who really do say that the two parties are the same make predictions about politics. My Democrat friends do the same. Looking back at the times when the two groups have clashed, the commies have been right literally 100% of the time....
If you’re a young person looking to actually make change in the world, I’m not quite sure what to tell you. I think you need to build something entirely new. Because Lucy will never let you kick that football. I am not ready to write off partisan politics entirely. I still don’t say both parties are the same. I think that a socialist movement should use a concert of tactics — in the labor movement, in street-level protests, in grassroots organizing, and in partisan politics — to try and effect change. But I know by now to expect less than nothing from the Democrats, and they never, ever let me down. Young radicals, you should utilize the Democratic party if you find it useful in the short term, but you have to understand: the Democrats hate you, and they will always hate you. There is no tangible evidence whatsoever to suggest that’s going to change.
