voted anjelica huston, not sure i really think it's the best performance but i think it's the one i'd most like to watch again right now. lotta love for channing, bassett, shue, blethyn, mcdormand, watson (btv), thelma, louise. would vote bridges of madison county best streep, sense and sensibility best thompson. nell.

mcdonnell still had some tatonka shine on her which is probably why she was able to get the nod. plus yknow, white.

sharon stone's best performance is in stardust memories. i love kate winslet w/ the heat of a thousand suns but having caught ten minutes of titanic recently i can verify that is not a great performance.

its not great, but i dont think its bad or anything.

i think the relative weakness of it compared to nearly everything else she has done is what made it stand out for me. it was like a good keira knightly performance.

Agreed. Still one of her more bearable performances (in a less than bearable movie that's still watchable than the "book").

I shoulda put Bonham Carter on my list -- and she probably would have won if not for Hunt.

'92 and '94 weakest of all. Jessica Lange won by default (not a bad performance either).

Pfeiffer nominated in JFK-exploiting claptrap while Catwoman that same year is ignored.

have to say helen hunt virtually disappearing after whutifthisisasgoodasitgets was one of the nicer failures of my worst fears being confirmed since live failed to turn into the next u2.

holy shit love field WAS the same year as her catwoman! fucking insane - it's not like there wasn't oscar buzz for her catwoman performance either. i guess the academy was still old enough that it wasn't going to vote for some fucking comic book movie.

As for '95, I'd have given the trophy to Shue and let Sean Penn win instead of Cage (Sarandon would've won for T&L in my world).

McDormand quite easily, though I give honourable mentions to Channing and Shue. Six Degrees of Separation is a sentimental favourite of mine.

Also, how is it possible that I watched every Oscar ceremony of the 90s and yet have never heard of Tom & Viv?

I haven't seen Shadowlands but I'm tempted to vote for Debra Winger because Debra Winger. Still, I gotta go with Marge Gunderson.
