have we forgotten so soon?

i agree fully with you PF!

i do think that the faint condemnation of stoke's thuggish crowd/tactics/existence can be contrasted very sharply with the fullblooded damnation consistently offered for 'foreign' offences such as diving, wenger complaining against roughhouse tactics, etc

wtf is with the hype for the manchester derby? gary just called it probably the biggest game in premiership history, the papers i looked at at work last night said in 1 that it will LOL be watched by more people than the world cup final like wtf where did you pull that bullshit out from and that the tuesday when you can talk about it at work will be 'the best day of yr life'. like srs, they said TUESDAY WILL BE THE BEST DAY OF THE READERS LIFE in the Sun because we can talk to coworkers about City-Utd.

its just gonna be a shitty 1-1.

xp yeah, I was going to query that last night. I'm quite interested in it and will no doubt watch, but biggest game ever? It'll be a dour affair I reckon, and I'm not really looking forward to it as such. The deadening hand of a Monday night kickoff isn't helping either.

I don't even feel like it's as big as the first game between them. It feels like there's not actually that much at stake, y'know? Utd will still win the league even if City do manage to beat them.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 29 April 2012 07:23 (1 year ago) Permalink

I know Utd have the easier run-in, but if City win the derby, they just need to win the two games (unless Utd go nuts in a game) because of goal difference.

GoT SPOILER ALERT (Gukbe), Sunday, 29 April 2012 07:30 (1 year ago) Permalink

It's not out of the question anymore, I just can't see it happening. Happy to be proved wrong obviously.

Wish I'd bought a ticket for today. But I was convinced - instead of just being pretty sure - the Rangers were going down when they went on sale. Still, I'm not putting £60 in Abramovitch's pocket, and I'm off to W12 to the Crown and Sceptre to drink and watch.

xpost New trend in football appears to be to abuse someone who has suffered at your team's hands. Fully expecting Anton Ferdinand to get a ton of shit today - AF a) Didn't hear the original Terry incident b) Never complained to the police about it c) Has kept his mouth shut about it. But the Stamford Bridge "Murderers!" moron contingent doubtless blame him for being provocatively black within 30 yards of their idiot hero.

Manfred Mann meets Man Parrish (ithappens), Sunday, 29 April 2012 08:19 (1 year ago) Permalink

Ramsey broke his leg in a game at Stoke following a tackle by Potters defender Ryan Shawcross in February 2010, and the centre-back has since been the subject of abuse from some Arsenal fans.

"I don't think you can be especially proud to boo Aaron Ramsey, I don't see what he has done wrong," said Wenger.

"It's an old story where the fans of Stoke stand behind their player but it shouldn't go as far as booing Ramsey."

Stoke manager Pulis refused to criticise his club's supporters but accepted there is a problem regarding abuse from the stands.

"It is very difficult for us all," he said. "I go to grounds and get abused.

"It's not just Arsene. If you speak to Sir Alex [Ferguson], he gets absolutely slaughtered at some grounds. Is it acceptable? The powers-that-be have got to decide that."

On the boos aimed at Ramsey, he added: "I was more concerned about the Arsenal supporters booing Shawcross so I didn't hear the ones on Ramsey."

yes tony, that is the exact same thing.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Sunday, 29 April 2012 08:30 (1 year ago) Permalink

It is barbaric - and so is the CFC abuse of Ferdinand. It should be treated as seriously as the other kinds of abuse that are taken seriously.

the pinefox, Sunday, 29 April 2012 09:10 (1 year ago) Permalink

It is a literalization of the phrase 'adding insult to injury'.
But that familiar phrase does not convey how shameful and wrong it is.

Jelavic's first touch for the chance he put onto the post y'day was quite something.

those pulis quotes are dreadful

he is just such a fucking remedial mouthbreathing lumpen

like even one of those rare occasions so completely indefensible that no serious person would ignore it, for him it's another springboard for TEAM STOKE

Foolish talk. If City win the match, they'll win the league. If United win the match, they'll win the league. If it's a draw, United will *probably* win the league.

enough with the mind games

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 29 April 2012 12:23 (1 year ago) Permalink

i dont remember a single league game this close to the end of the season where things were quite so delicately poised betwen the contenders

some of the ynahtid-arsenal/chelsea game got a similar buildup but they werent the antepenultimate game of the season, and the outcome in any case wouldn't have been so definitive

i like that no matter how much the hack contingent go on about MIND GAMES, mancini still does his glowering impassive faux-mongface and answers MAYBE or IS FOOTBALL IS STRANGE to most questions, while ferguson's periodic snipes are flinty and half-hearted

Erm... it was exactly the same situation last season. United were 3 points ahead of Chelsea with three games to go when they met at Old Trafford. In fact, if anything it was closer as they were level on goal difference.

Let's Talk About Socks (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Sunday, 29 April 2012 12:44 (1 year ago) Permalink

And in 2008, Chelsea v United with three games left, United were leading by three points, Chelsea won that to go level on points (but still lost the league on the final day).

QPR fucking up their goal difference big time.

Spurs temporarily down to 6th, Everton could still catch 'em.

Also last nights MOTD, Alan Hansen sneering at qualifying for the Europa Lge. FUCK OFF ALAN!

A couple of minutes later Sturridge drove into the area, only for Ferdinand to kick the ball away to safety. Cue the expected boos from the home fans.

chelsea fans vs stoke fans

Ms Tum-Bla-Wi-Tee (nakhchivan), Sunday, 29 April 2012 13:07 (1 year ago) Permalink

fitba fans are mostly terrible sometimes worse sometimes chelsea or stoke fans

Booing of Ferdinand is drowning out the commentary at times. Definitely not a small minority.
