Part of a series of slightly moving posed arty fashion type pictures, not a famous model afaik
― StanM, Wednesday, 20 April 2011 18:48 (2 years ago) Permalink
ok - the "leg chick" is a model called Coco -> http://oh-so-coco.tumblr.com/ and the photographer, who does these moving pics she calls Cinemagraphs, is Jamie: http://fromme-toyou.tumblr.com/

Love the taxi one.
I kinda want to know who "invented" these - the person behind iwdrm.tumblr or this pair. I want to credit iwdrm cos i haven't seen him/her throwing around wanky terms like cinemagraph.
― Number None, Tuesday, 26 April 2011 21:07 (2 years ago) Permalink
they're two different techniques - cinemagraphs are animating one part of a still photograph where iwdrm captures those loopable moments from films. both are grebt, this thread is the best, and that spinning arm mandala up there O_O
― herbal bert (herb albert), Tuesday, 26 April 2011 21:35 (2 years ago) Permalink
I dunno, the iwdrm gifs often have one tiny part of the frame moving with everything else being static in a way it wouldn't have appeared in the film.
― Number None, Tuesday, 26 April 2011 21:41 (2 years ago) Permalink
yeah i dont think there's anything different from what iwdrm and these other people are doing besides one is using dvds of feature movies and the other is going out in the world with their dslr
also how do you "animate one part of a still photograph" and have it come out like this?
― gr8080, Tuesday, 26 April 2011 21:49 (2 years ago) Permalink
there's no way that this guy used "clever photoshop techniques" to "animate a still photograph" of this:
― gr8080, Tuesday, 26 April 2011 21:51 (2 years ago) Permalink
Been out for years - they are called GIF's

― Some other race (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 26 April 2011 21:53 (2 years ago) Permalink
They're really simple, I think. They're really just two layers. The background layer is a looped bit of film. The foreground is a still from the same angle, with a hole cut out over the part of the image that moves.

― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 27 April 2011 00:43 (2 years ago) Permalink
the iwdrm ones are often mindblowing because i can't tell how they're working - when they have multiple rhythms going on (e.g. the latest full metal jacket one), which don't really appear to be syncing up with each other, what's going on? i assume i'm just not polyrhyhthmically aware enough to figure out where they meet (if it's something besides that i'd be very interested to hear it), but that he's somehow caught that he can extract that seamless loop from multiple things going on at once is amazing to me.
― Antoine Bugleboy (Merdeyeux), Wednesday, 27 April 2011 00:57 (2 years ago) Permalink
If there are multiple pieces looping, that just means that there are multiples "holes" in the foreground cover layer I mentioned a few posts ago.
― secretariat on demand (Z S), Wednesday, 27 April 2011 01:02 (2 years ago) Permalink
The cinemagraphs work by using GIFs, a type of picture format similar to a JPEG
