I love polls where "I don't care" is an option.

As opposed to, y'know, just not voting. I care so much I want to tell you (anonymously!) that I don't care!

An I Love Football would be like an I Love Politics, you just know it would have less participation than it does on ILE. Who cares how many threads there are at any one time?

Matt DC, Sunday, 19 September 2010 21:22 (thirteen years ago) link

On the other hand it might really take off like The Church.

Mo Tucker Mo Problems (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 19 September 2010 21:22 (thirteen years ago) link

^^^ legally obliged to do that zing

Mo Tucker Mo Problems (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 19 September 2010 21:23 (thirteen years ago) link

No - but if we must, move only the minor threads there and keep the Premiership one on ILE.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 19 September 2010 21:24 (thirteen years ago) link

Let I Love Film be a cautionary lesson here - dozens of film threads thriving on ILE and that board totally ignored.. Even I LOVE CRICKET: THE CHINATOWN OF ILX: THE CHINATOWN OF ILX, I Love Hoops and ILNFL look pretty threadbare most of the time. Keep it in the ILX mainstream.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 19 September 2010 21:27 (thirteen years ago) link

I think yes, with except with the big ones staying here. Y'know, SPL and dunno what else. The foreign leagues and other discussion could benefit from not disappearing from sight so quickly.

Antoine Bugleboy (Merdeyeux), Sunday, 19 September 2010 21:27 (thirteen years ago) link

i love baseball is really the only board that would clog up ile if it was let out -- nfl & hoops use rolling threads

i like having separate boards myself but feel like this should be left up to the soccer folks

J0rdan S., Sunday, 19 September 2010 21:34 (thirteen years ago) link

I've got all the current season ones bookmarked anyway (plus soccerball gifs, english football introspective handwringing thread etc), so don't care, tbh. But this poorly constructed poll doesn't have an option for me.

MattDC, I can see an argument that I Love Soccerball would allow some other threads other than the well-followed behemoths, but I don't know if it would happen or if anyone would care.

If they work they're great. I Love Comics was fantastic three or four years ago, for example. A smallish group of funny, enthusiastic posters.

rhythm fixated member (chap), Sunday, 19 September 2010 21:36 (thirteen years ago) link

don't really care here, i'm not much of a soccer fan and i rarely click on ILE anymore anyway, if i want to look at an index of threads about 'everything' i use site new answers. which is gonna give me the football threads regardless of where they are.

ciderpress, Sunday, 19 September 2010 21:37 (thirteen years ago) link

but i will say that the ability to make junky random threads about baseball and to have separate threads for each ballclub works great in ILBB, i probably would participate less if baseball was confined to a few rolling threads on ILE

ciderpress, Sunday, 19 September 2010 21:39 (thirteen years ago) link

My absolute bottom line - do NOT call it 'I Love Soccerball'. That would be twee.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 19 September 2010 21:43 (thirteen years ago) link

Actually, I have just looked at ILNFL and ILHoops and ILBaseball for the first time ever and yeah, I like, even though the thread titles mean nothing to me.

(I do not want it to be called I Love Soccerball, btw)

well a mod can lock this one and you can start a proper poll with all the right options, it's fine by me.

i would also like to state that this poll does not have my preferred personal choice fwiw

illiterate mods are killing ilx (darraghmac), Sunday, 19 September 2010 21:54 (thirteen years ago) link

Newsflash: Poll is not going to influence anything, btw. Consider my abstention to be a "don't care because I don't care".

ailsa, Sunday, 19 September 2010 21:56 (thirteen years ago) link

If we had an 'I'm Kind of Indifferent About Football' board, I would probably participate a couple of times or maybe even three.

jesper olsen twins (NickB), Sunday, 19 September 2010 22:00 (thirteen years ago) link

r|t|c, Sunday, 19 September 2010 22:14 (thirteen years ago) link

ile really isn't even clogged up w/ soccer thread either... it's like, what, four threads?

J0rdan S., Sunday, 19 September 2010 22:16 (thirteen years ago) link

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 19 September 2010 22:18 (thirteen years ago) link

I've got 16 football-related threads bookmarked at the moment. I suspect having a sub-board would mean more rather than keeping them most discussion in the rolling threads.

Tom A. (Tom B.) (Tom C.) (Tom D.), Friday, 24 September 2010 09:03 (thirteen years ago) link

I don't understand why you wouldn't use it all the time?

My glowbo's ain't half itchy (NickB), Friday, 24 September 2010 09:03 (thirteen years ago) link

I suppose because I don't wanna accidentally end up on some weird board with some bunch of anal geeks, irony or what?

Tom A. (Tom B.) (Tom C.) (Tom D.), Friday, 24 September 2010 09:06 (thirteen years ago) link

As I said before, I'm already on ILM and that's bad enough

Tom A. (Tom B.) (Tom C.) (Tom D.), Friday, 24 September 2010 09:07 (thirteen years ago) link

You can set SNA so it only shows the boards you're interested in. Or you can add the football board to your menu at the top right next to where it says ILM and ILE.

meta the devil you know (onimo), Friday, 24 September 2010 09:08 (thirteen years ago) link

Might be a lesson in egg-sucking here but you choose what gets shown in SNA. Go in to preferences and click on 'I Want to Change the Boards Shown on Site New Answers...'. Then uncheck the weirdy boards.

xps

It's a tough and thankless job being a referee. You're the only man with the experience to take it on, though you'd need to renew your not a nonce papers.
