if you couldn't figure out this was going to have dragons in it you're a fucking moron

thomp, Monday, 19 March 2012 15:52 (twelve years ago) link

sorry, that was overly hostile

thomp, Monday, 19 March 2012 15:52 (twelve years ago) link

I'm finding Feast for Crows a bit slow so far after the insanity of SoS.

uh, i knew there were gonna be dragons, just didn't need to spend the next seven episodes waiting for dragons to show up
or for ned to die for that matter. damn you internet

So if i wanted to just jump into book 2 right now, having done nothing other than watch the first season, I could do that and keep up with the plot on paper just fine?

Yes.

I don't think you should though

Number None, Monday, 19 March 2012 16:01 (twelve years ago) link

Book 1 and S1 are essentially exactly the same, except the book has more background detail, lots of extended scenes etc. But I still really enjoyed reading the book despite having seen the show relatively shortly before. You also get more insight into the characters' thoughts and motivations.

sooooo... start with book one?

I haven't watched with the commentaries yet

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 19 March 2012 23:44 (twelve years ago) link

The idea of a commentary track done by the kids is delightful but I am not looking forward to their analyses of the various sexposition scenes.

polyphonic, Monday, 19 March 2012 23:47 (twelve years ago) link

oh that's the SHOW'S kids? neat.

Wesley Crusher: Teenage F#ck Machine (forksclovetofu), Monday, 19 March 2012 23:58 (twelve years ago) link

I'm finding Feast for Crows a bit slow so far after the insanity of SoS.

I think that this is the typical reaction, unless I'm mistaken.

Johnny Favre (Leee), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 03:26 (twelve years ago) link

ya same feeling here... it's taking me a lot more time to go through Feast for Crows than it took to read the previous three. the focus is really too much on characters i don't really care about i guess.

Jibe, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 05:08 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah, there are only two POV characters I'm heavily invested in in this one.

I wish to incorporate disco into my small business (chap), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 13:19 (twelve years ago) link

maybe dumb q, but is the 'will this just be for nerds?' a specific like thing? aside from if obv being fantasy/lol @ d&d or w/e? if not, the dude who wrote the EW article lurks ilx

Everyone in the Seven Kingdoms is excited about the NFL playoffs.

The wildlings and the men of the Night's Watch and even some northmen are all pulling for the Giants, of course. But in the Vale of Arryn and the Mountains of the Moon, they're Falcons fans.

The Lannisters are cheering on Detroit, even if the lion is the wrong color, but some of the smallfolk of Lannisport on its western bay are fond of those 49ers. The High Septon and all the septa and septons and devout of the realm are for the Saints.

The butchers and tanners of King's Landing and Oldtown are behind the Packers, the smiths and armorers are with the Steelers. At the Citadel of Oldtown, the archmaesters and the Conclave are all about the Ravens, but across the narrow sea the khals and Dothraki horselords are screaming and whistling for the Broncos. In Volantis, the tigers are Bengals backers; the elephants are rooting for whoever plays the Bengals.

Nobody anywhere knows what a 'Texan' is, but a few Dornishmen might support them anyway, just to be perverse.

One commonality unites all the Seven Kingdoms, and the lands beyond. Everyone everywhere hates the Patriots, and Evil Little Bill.

I had no idea Bronn was in Robson & Jerome until now, I never heard their music but I remember the NME and Melody Maker hating them sooo much.
