Because it's not just the French.

Ned Trifle (Notinmyname), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 14:15 (fourteen years ago) link

they're all disgusting and should be banned

genial anarchy (darraghmac), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 14:23 (fourteen years ago) link

(i take it 'have your say' means we're to post in that style?)

genial anarchy (darraghmac), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 14:24 (fourteen years ago) link

please god no.

Ned Trifle (Notinmyname), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 14:26 (fourteen years ago) link

ok in that case making somebody wear these isn't ideal, and banning someone that wants to wear them from doing so is far from ideal.

genial anarchy (darraghmac), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 14:34 (fourteen years ago) link

make 'em colourful and fashionable and get people (inc men?) wearing them just for those reasons

I'm confused (which perhaps serves me right for getting my info from wiki) about what particular countries actually do at the moment. As was mentioned in the other thread the French are thinking about banning something from somewhere but it's not clear (to me anyway) what exactly and where exactly? I'm not even sure of the law here in the UK. wrt, for instance, helmets and balaclavas, banned in banks, but that's presumably a private company's decision, not any legal requirement? Wouldn't any law end up a terrible mess?

do Bluewater still ban hoodies with hoods up? did they ever?

mdskltr (blueski), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 14:36 (fourteen years ago) link

my local shopping centre bans hoods, or is said to, and has chucked out the proverbial little old lady as a result. but i've worn a hood up in there and -- nothing.

The smile on my face, disguises the case, I bury the truth deep down in (ken c), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 15:33 (fourteen years ago) link

jesus was bare foot all the time. can't believe people are STILL being persecuted for literally following in his foot steps.

mdskltr (blueski), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 15:35 (fourteen years ago) link

bare feet is more carbon neutral than wearing plastic bags on feet.

so, tower hamlets wants to spend £2million on a big metal sculpture of a hijab at the entrance to brick lane. what an excellent use of public money.

i like headscarves

i think theyre sensual

but what you think might depend on your cultural background

the burquas and nikkabs, im personally not so keen on.

though much of that is just cos i like to see a womans face. and only seeing the eyes seems unfair.

two years pass...

I often hear the word "hijab" to the tune of Cyndi Lauper's "She-Bop".

in North Africa now, kinda weirded out by the women with a cloth across their mouths , dunno what it's called, just a reg headscarf plus that

Euler, Saturday, 5 January 2013 00:23 (eleven years ago) link

I love seeing dudes wearing like, really awesome suits and turbans. Or teenage girls in mall-clothes and a hijab.
there used to be an Ethiopian woman on my tram in the morning and she had a full burqa but then these rad girly sneakers with rhinestones on them and shit.
