Yup. I believe i criticized Robert Sheehan upthread but i think he's fantastic now.

I love how non-stop ridiculous it is. Huge lol @ "I think we can rule me out..."

Was it just me thinking "you might as well stay on the pipe, at least then we'll know it's not you"?

Haven't seen the first ep of s2 yet, but really enjoyed the first series. My only complaint is that the show itself didn't seem to know how widespread the people-getting-powers thing was. The misfits are all 'Keep our powers secret, we'll be experimented on!', but it seems as though half the city has them, But nobody in the wider world seems to have noticed, or to care. Hope they clarify things a bit this series.

That was awesome.

fucking brilliant - really good to have this back.

Robert Sheehan FTW and FUIUD, basically.

Loved this to the point where I think I will be re-watching it before I start any writing today.

Nobody?

Really liked that ep. And lots of great lines. Didn't pick the dad as Dexter Fletcher until right at the end.

Tempted to rewatch the images in the time-traveller's eye as he winds back from the future, but I don't want to spoil any surprises either.

I was busy on Thursday night, but am really looking forward to catching up tonight. I will report back later...

krakow, Saturday, 20 November 2010 08:47 (thirteen years ago) link

Was going to bump this myself, I only watched it last night.

I haven't rewatched the images or read any spoilers (other than noticing Wikipedia now has a column for 'drug-induced inverted power) but I reckon Superhoodie is an effect of Curtis moving so far forward in time - we never usually see him getting there or back, but it must happen, right? So I reckon it's Curtis using the knowledge he gained when he's on the rooftop in costume fixing the things that need to happen for him to get to that position (end of the series?) along the way. Dunno how him saving himself last week works under that logic though.

ia! ia! Cartman fthagn! (aldo), Saturday, 20 November 2010 11:27 (thirteen years ago) link

I must admit, the two main things driving it are that they bothered to show us he was black (his hands on the railing before he left the balcony) and the look to the person on the sofa under the duvet in the flat implying that he knew it was hers.

Nice one! Didn't pick up that at all, but it makes sense.

buildings with goats on the roof (James Morrison), Sunday, 21 November 2010 00:42 (thirteen years ago) link

This show is ridiculous, but also great fun! OTT theatrical-style acting, stuff that only reaches Butterlfy-Effect levels of sense - but I watch and enjoy it every week. Why does Nathan turn up to his community service, fully uniformed, when he's been dead for a number of days?? Who cares? Why hasn't anyone with powers been to see a doctor? Who cares? Why has no one sent the police round yet ? Who cares??

Didn't see that coming!

Seems they either have a lot to cram into the remaining episodes (it is a 6-parter again isn't it?) or they're guaranteed another series.

She had lovely little hands, like a midget's.

Excellent again last night. I dig the balance between stirring stuff and levity that they're striking this series - like last night the revelation in parkour-boy's hideout was really gripping but then 10 mins later you've got Nathan pleading with Simon for some dry-humping.

No talk about ep6? Awesome, I thought, and the payoff line for the Christmas special was perfect.

Was really surprised to find that E6 wasn't the end actually. Hope they get a third series. Curtis's power is a bit too all-purpose get out of jail free, but it sort of doesn't matter. Nathan was hilarious in the one too.

They need a proper arch nemesis I think.

Matt DC, Sunday, 19 December 2010 22:38 (thirteen years ago) link

I think there must be series three so they can show Las Vegas.

Love that their answer to everything since the show started is to kill people.

Nathan killing the "alien" was truly one of the most horrifying/hilarious tv moments i have ever seen. I hope we haven't seen the last of Ruth Negga.

I doubt we've seen the last of her, she's hardly done anything so far and is still Curtis's girlfriend.

Matt DC, Monday, 20 December 2010 16:21 (thirteen years ago) link

They're all really good. One of my friends inspired a character in the David Peace book and when filmed, that char was played by Rob Sheehan. I showed this friend Misfits clips last night, ROFLing as friend was going 'wait...looks familiar...whywhywhy does he look so familiar?'

Her english accent is really good, took me a while to realize it was actually her. Pretty different role to anything i've seen her in up to now as well.

Number None, Monday, 20 December 2010 19:55 (thirteen years ago) link

There's definitely a third (and I think it's the final) series been given the go-ahead.

buildings with goats on the roof (James Morrison), Monday, 20 December 2010 22:29 (thirteen years ago) link

I love the fact that you never know what the hell is likely to happen next. Even the heavy handed foreshadowing (like lactose intolerance) plays off completely differently to expectations.

buildings with goats on the roof (James Morrison), Monday, 20 December 2010 22:30 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm assuming Ruth Negga will be back because Curtis' only motive for getting powers back is to resurrect her. Although...

the simplest thing would be for him to wind back to before any of them sell their powers and them to kill jesus then. But then Nathan won't necessarily meet the pregnant girl and they won't have the money that jesus saved and I bet both those are in place, and new powers (although I reckon the only one who will have something new is Alisha).

Yeah I also thought it was on Friday, now I've spoilered it a bit for myself by reading the thread. Ah well, identity of Superhoodie aside it's not like anyone watches this programme for the plot twists is it?

Matt DC, Tuesday, 21 December 2010 10:19 (thirteen years ago) link

I don't know what I watch it for TBH. All I know is I'm compelled to.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 22 December 2010 12:01 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah, I get the feeling they stuck that in just to annoy the watchdogs.

Bernard V. O'Hare (dog latin), Wednesday, 22 December 2010 12:03 (thirteen years ago) link

The entire last 20mins of this episode was just fantastic. They need to bring the Jesus guy back somehow, he was like a weird rapey David Tennant/Matt Bellamy/Robert Peston hybrid.

Also the Christmas carol was just lolololol.

Love the way Nathan just never thinks anything through or learns from his mistakes. Should I blow my brains out on national TV? Yeah why not. Should I sell my immortality for a couple of grand, yeah go for it.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 22 December 2010 12:06 (thirteen years ago) link

loved Nathan being Mr Brave with the gunman until someone reminded him he was no longer immortal
loved alien baby stomp

onimo, Wednesday, 29 December 2010 11:45 (thirteen years ago) link

Also, time-travelling Simon had the news tape from the undone timeline in ep 6, so he'll need some sort of parallel-universe-hopping powers too

Love this show so much I haven't really cared about the timetravel plot holes. In a way I hope they don't address them because there are just so many now (Like Simon and Alisha getting together in the future after she's meant to have been killed by the Grand Theft Auto bloke, or Simon and Alisha remembering the conversation about future-Simon after Curtis reversed that day), dimension jumping would be nice but I like that this is the kind of show that doesn't get too hung up on those sorts of details, and that no one really notices them anyway because it's too busy being awesome in every other way.

Has anyone been watching The Fades? It's like elements of Misfits and The Inbetweeners grafted on to Buffy The Vampire Slayer. It's not remotely original but significantly better than you'd expect from BBC3.

Season 3, episode 1 was so wrong we rage quit. Usually after investing in a show for 2 seasons I'll give them benefit of the doubt. But S3 E1 was so bad, the new lead guy so WTF terrible, we just quit.
