You're not a rap blogger, stop saying this.

Also, if you are a rap blogger, stop saying this.

commons hack spat (Ned Trifle II), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 17:43 (fifteen years ago) link

After reading that definition I am still confused - what's a "homosexual comment"?

commons hack spat (Ned Trifle II), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 17:44 (fifteen years ago) link

Because rap bloggers are the biggest goddamn homophobes on the fucking planet and live in constant fear of someone thinking they're gay for not screaming their heterosexuality in every fucking sentence.

so it's the rap verson of "That's what she said?"

whiney i think guys are gonna give it to you pretty hard in this thread

Shawty Lo Collier (some dude), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 17:56 (fifteen years ago) link

At least, "That's what she said" had the aura of "Hahaha I'm acting like an 8-year-old"

This is like grown men screaming, "YO, I'M NOT GAY, MAN FYI" when they say something.

And then indie rock bloggers pick it up as a way to make gay jokes that are a little more "politically correct" but still has the subtley of when when college freshmen start referring to black people as "homies"

Sorry if this is getting stantony.

Why u blaming rap bloggers in general - just call them out by name. Afraid to say 'byron'? How does this compare w hipster runoff dropping 'fag' all the time.

Btw I agree w thread premise that this shit is largely lame but i'm not sure what else there is to say.

eight months pass...

ugh the worst example ever of this is in the new freshmen 10 xxl -- i guess every issue they do this thing where on the staff page, members of the ed staff answer a question and they put the answer next to their name or whatever -- and so the question this month is "which of the freshmen 10 are you most excited about?" and for one dude (the photo editor or something) it reads "Donnis, he seems like the most charismatic of the bunch (pause)" -- if you have to pause for praising someone for having charisma i think i'm getting out of the talking about rap game before it gets any worse

but actually it is impossible to have a penis on the body of a mermaid (dyao), Friday, 12 March 2010 08:25 (fourteen years ago) link

i really didn't have a huge problem with no homo/nullus/pause thing when it was confined to people like byron crawford, noz, ilm and of course pitchfork reviews of dispet albums, but i think it's pretty disconcerting and depressing to see writers & editors bringing it into supposedly "professional" print magazines

i have a problem with rap writers co-opting the homophobic rap slang "(pause)" in the same way that i would have a problem if xxl changed their editorial policy to state that every female subject in the magazine be referred to as a "bitch" or a "ho"

hitler runoff (J0rdan S.), Friday, 12 March 2010 08:33 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah but that's not really the policy right now is it? you're kinda reading a lot into one guy's offhand comment on a staff comment page, a page where naturally the responses are going to be more casual/reflective of street use

but actually it is impossible to have a penis on the body of a mermaid (dyao), Friday, 12 March 2010 08:36 (fourteen years ago) link

i love the dichotomy of that cover featuring complex's never ending desire to use trendy rap slang & said slang being meticulously copy edited
