Henriksen was born in Manhattan, New York City to a poor family. His father was a Norwegian merchant sailor and boxer nicknamed "Icewater" who spent most of his life at sea. Henriksen’s mother struggled to find work as a dance instructor, waitress, and model.[1][2] His parents divorced when he was only two years old and he was raised by his mother from then on. As he grew up, Henriksen found himself in trouble at various schools and even saw the inside of a children's home. Henriksen left home and dropped out of school at the age of twelve. He was illiterate until the age of 30, when he taught himself to read by studying film scripts.[3] He spent most of his adolescence as a street urchin in New York. Riding on freight trains across the country, he would also do time in jail for petty crimes such as vagrancy.

Lance Henriksen plays a priest serving at a small parish and is facing a crisis of faith brought on by the violent death of a young boy. He explains to his bishop (!!!) that he's lost his belief in the concepts of good and evil. He finally leaves the ministry and takes off across the desert in his car.

Out of no where he encounters a black 4x4 truck. At first, it just cuts him up and takes off. However, it keeps reappearing, forcing him off the road and knocking off his bumper. This is no ordinary truck. With nowhere left to run the priest has no choice but to face this seemingly unstoppable entity.

It's a segment from Nightmares. Filmed to be a tv movie, but released in the theaters.

Some damn good movies here. Inclined to go with Near Dark, though Dead Man is a strong possible.

Haven't seen The Outfit - I doubt it's in the film, but I'd love to see him deliver Schultz' famous 'last words'.

i vote millenium, just for the jose chung episode which has charles nelson reilly asserting his love for "every line" on henrikson's face

and what, Friday, 17 October 2008 20:09 (fifteen years ago) link

"The agony and humiliation of being a human is in every line I've ever written, and it's written in every line in the face of Frederick Blork. God, I love his face. Not in that way – no one could love his face that way – it's hideous!"

and what, Friday, 17 October 2008 20:09 (fifteen years ago) link

JOSE: (weakly) Fra… Frank ...
FRANK: What?
JOSE: Don't you just love that mustache?
FRANK: Yeah, it's …

[Frank looks up at a confused Watts; when he turns back, Jose is dead.]

and what, Friday, 17 October 2008 20:10 (fifteen years ago) link

millenium is the only thing i can really remember him in!

re: CLOSE ENCOUNTERS

"I was so young in the business. The only good thing out of that experience was watching this giant movie being made. I went up to Spielberg and said, 'Steven here's my idea: when the little guys come down, I take my coat and throw it over one of their heads and I run into one of those Porta Potties, and i capture one of those sons of bitches.' And he looked at me like, Are you out of your mind? I offended him, but that was like what a street kid in New York would do. He didn't even wanna talk to me after that. I'm in it for a 30th of a second."

re: PIRANHA II: THE SPAWNING (chronicle of a career foretold)

"It was an early movie for everybody - not the first film Jim was ready to do but the first budget he could get. Cameron was the kind of guy who would be in the motel room down in Jamaica making rubber fish while everyone else was out partying. He felt it was his only chance - life or death - so he was obsessed. And I was obsessed as an actor about my part so we hit it off. I was playing a white Jamaican guy. It was a very unbalanced movie , Jim didn't write it. You do your best, no matter what the budget or circumstances. What else are you gonna do?

my sweet coconut (rogermexico.), Friday, 17 October 2008 20:29 (fifteen years ago) link

Oh shit, yeah, he was awes in Stone Cold.

re: NEAR DARK

To help get into character before filming, Henriksen rented a car and drove down to the location in Arizona, picking up hitchers along the way.

"Stayed in character and would say things like 'Roll me a cigarette,' and give him a tobacco pouch. The guy would roll one with great difficulty, and I would say, 'You call that a cigarette?' and then throw it out the window. Or, I would tell him to turn the radio on, then say, 'What kind of stupid music is that - turn it off'...

"I wanted to see how much you can subtly say to somebody before they start getting scared." He sighs, "You know after three hours, this huge guy, who could probably have crushed my head, was begging to get out of the car. I felt so guilty for what I had done that I gave him 30 bucks, all the money I had in my pocket."

gear I love you for this thread.
