I've read a bit about this place over the years, sounds fascinating in a wasted sort of way. Former mining boomtown now noted for superfund toxicity. Lots of old buildings in direpair/abandoned as city is now 1/3 of its peak size. Hard drinking/whoring reputation from ye olde days, maybe some of that persists. What's it like if you've ever been?

Butte has a very notorious past, none of it good. Corruption and violence, mainly, but also a lot of drinking, prostitution and gambling for good measure. Chances are good that its ugly past has not entirely vanished. Unless that's your cup of tea.

There’s a former open-pit copper mine there that’s so toxic that the life forms who have evolved in it love eating metal waste and expelling acid that might be useful in treating cancer.https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berkeley_Pit
