The film list went up only an hour or two ago, and man I find it impossible to use their website in any useful way.

If it's anything like last year, s1ocki's lying in a pile of screeners-- what's worth seeing? What isn't? Who's going to see so much genre film that their eyes fall out and start eating other people's eyes like little eye-zombies?!

Ok I missed a couple movies due to sold out tickets and a couple more due to illness but re: the ones I've seen so far...

"REC" (should have square brackets) is fucking AMAZING, if you like scary movies watch it. WATCH IT SERIOUSLY. Pref. before you see any trailers for the American remke Quarantine (argh). Longest 90 minutes EVER and I mean that in the GOOD way.

Second Skin was kinda heartbreaking and kinda lovable as any good documentary of this variety should be but I dunno if it rises above that to be great. Amusing but not really awesome. Hey let's make fun of MMO nerds.

What We Do Is Secret is the best Germs biopic I've ever seen, but the only one. I don't think I much liked it. At all. Bleh.

Timecrimes was the least frustrating time rave movie I've ever seen and is constructed wonderfully and the main guy's progression from bumbling fool to awesomedude is completely believable. Recommend.

Before The Fall was a slasher and an apocalypse movie mixed into one. Cute kids but I would've rather they had focused on one of the two plots instead of having both.

The Sparrow had some great scenes. The rest was a little slow but it was the third movie I saw that day.

I MISSED "LET THE RIGHT ONE IN" ARGH. Also missed "The Objective" yesterday despite owning a ticket! :(

two years pass...

Didn't think a whole new thread was appropriate - any MTL peeps caught anything amazing this year?

My faves so far are "Marwencol" and "We Are What We Are," but besides the former nothing's really blown me away as of yet. Enjoyed "Alice Creed" and "The Revenant." Endured "A Serbian Film," barely. Catching "Re-Animator" for the first time w/ 700 screaming fans was pretty great. Beyond that, mostly duds and near-misses so far.

I loved loved loved Marwencol. Otherwise I've seen Gallants (super-slick first 20 mins and then pretty boring), Heartless (I heard people hype this as this year's Let The Right One In - it's decent but definitely not worth that level of praise), a serbian film (not my thing but I was kind of impressed), and my neighbor zombie (basically awful with a few good bits and inspiring because it looked pretty fucking good for a 24k budget). Still upcoming: rec2, fatso, the housemaid, the perfect host, and tucker and dale.

Either I picked poorly this year, though, or it really wasn't the best year. Bummed that I missed Lemmy, Sell Out, and one other I forget.
