Boobboosts aren't technically plastic surgery, are they?

N., Thursday, 21 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Cosmetic surgery then. WHATEVER. The sun is shining, stop being such a pedant.

Emma, Thursday, 21 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I don't know what has brought on this latest bout. It's odd. You're right, the sun is shining. Let's dance.

N., Thursday, 21 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

poor windowless me. pity me, now.

Alan Trewartha, Thursday, 21 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I would think that eating enough Double Deckers would make you big up top, down low, and all around the middle, unless you make a habit of sleeping in a centrifuge.

Dan Perry, Thursday, 21 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

My marble bar has melted whilst I was in a meeting!

Jonnie, Thursday, 21 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Boobboosts. Mmms, Boost bars. I miss the coconut one.

Ellie, Thursday, 21 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Oh, give me strength, or some form of Lindt.

Nick and Emma may boil in anger but I Am Chocolate Princess of ILX. I know this is true because whenever I eat GOOD chocolate, it makes me SNEEZE. BAD chocolate DOES NOT produce a sneeze. This is not an allergy, it is quality control, y'all.

One year I volunteered to test the holiday choc ranges for the Observer. So I called up all the chains and got them to send in (cough, BIKE OVER) the free samples. By the end of the free samples I was in the middle of a crying jag on the floor somewhere on the 4th level of the graniaud building because, apart from the Thorntons and Godiva, all were RUBBISH.

...and in America, they pronounce NOUGAT 'knew-get'. Otherwise you get a NOUGIE for being poncey.

suzy, Thursday, 21 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I Am Chocolate Princess of ILX.

Bah! Wouldn't you rather be the Fairy Queen?

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 21 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

D'oh, Ned: any really stylin' monarch has MANY titles.

suzy, Thursday, 21 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Fair enough. *swans off in Emperor-of-the-Universe robes*

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 21 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I know this won't get read but, anyway:

"When They're Gone, They're Gone" says the White Chunky Kit Kat slogan: its a limited edition (albeit of several million). So stock up now. Its currently the fastest selling confectionery item in our machines.

Tom said: There should be an essay on the quest for a viable bar that uses white chocolate. Milky Bar has had the field to itself forever and is very unimaginative. Have you tried the Nestlé Crunch White? Maybe too much like melted Milky Bars with Rice Krispies in for you.

David, Thursday, 21 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

ooh yes, a little oversweet but reminded me of the old crunch bar I used to have years ago, which may have been foreign nestle even, but nice.

Suzy, it's not about quality, it's about sugar and texture and the quick sweet fix, sure you can have godiva or posh 70% cocoa solids but that's just missing the point when you're sat at your desk when all you need is some thick, sweet chocolatey mush in your mouth.

chris at home, Thursday, 21 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Cherry Ripe Rox0rs and so does Aero Bars. Who here likes Tim Tams then? Or should there be a separate choccy biccie thread?

electric sound of jim, Thursday, 21 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

they're the ones like our Penguins aren't they? only more chocolatey I found, so yeah, they rock dude

chris at home, Thursday, 21 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

how come none of you mentalists have mentioned the fact that since they took the raisins out of double deckers they have been RUBBIDGE!?!??

CarsmileSteve, Thursday, 21 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

raisins? when was this?

michael, Thursday, 21 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

What raisins?

Anna, Thursday, 21 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

exactly. he's thinking of the WRONG BAR

michael, Thursday, 21 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

No, Carsmile is, as usual, OTM. Initially, DDs had raisins (possibly sultanas, admittedly) but they were removed from the recipe at some stage. If I had to guess at the date of this removal, I would say mid to late '80s.

Tim, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Except of course that DDs are still very fine. just not as fine as when they had the raisins.

Tim, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

yup, raisins went out of them a long time ago, they did add a little extra, but Tim is OTM.

chris, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Obviously I am younger than you lot and not nearly 30 or anything but I don't remember raisins in my Double Decker. Presumably you are claiming they were in the crispy bit rather than the nuggetine bit?

Emma, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

removal of raisins = the only red wedge success story

mark s, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

they were on the side emma: they came in a little twist of blue paper

mark s, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Emma, yes, the crispy bit, there weren't loads of them, but just enough to make it nice.

chris, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

*spurts coffee onto PC screen* - very funny, mark

Re suzy's choc-tester experience: if by "holiday choc ranges" you mean easter, I think I read that piece (which is strange since I've nevah knowingly bought the Hobserver).

I am of course lucky in some respects: Godiva stalls all over this city. Mmmmm.

But no Double Deckers here.

Jeff W, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I still don't believe the raisins thing. Fuses are nice aren't they? Do they still have them? Weren't they set to overtake the Kitkat as top choc bar at one point?

Emma, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

And then there was the Maverick.....

Jonnie, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Raisins in choco bars often dud cos (a) makes biscuit go soft and/or (b) tastes moldy (cf. Club Fruit, Cadbury's Fruit+Nut). Exceptions: Buscuit and Raisin Yorkie and Fuse. I like the taste of Fuse, but it's a bugger to eat. You try and take a small bite and end up with half the bar in yr mouth.

Fuse bar success story.

Jeff W, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

i have realised that i didn't mean double deckers. i dont think so anyway. could i have meant drifters? i mean, about the disappearing and reappearing thing

gareth, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

NOW he tells us.

N., Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

152 posts all about a mis-identified chocolate bar? sheesh

chris, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Gareth - I am so disapointed.

Anna, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

i dont think so anyway

to quote my Mum, Gareth, "that's it, you don't think, do you????"

;-)

chris, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

did anyone ever eat dime bars?

jel --, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

yes. not very often admittedly.

has anyone had a Cadbury's Brunch bar? they've started putting them in the vending machines in the Tube, but when i tried to get one they were sold out. i'm hoping that with the Cadbury's name they will be tasty and chocolatey and not just an oatey 'instead of breakfast' kind of bar

michael, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

but do they come with a canteloupe?

mark s, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

eh?

michael, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

"antelope bars" would be a good name for a chocolate, it could be for people who don't like "lion bars".

I like Galaxy Liasons.

jel --, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

i had a dime bar yesterday in walthamstow. it was a 2 in 1 pack. last month i had a cola dime bar.

gareth, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I haf come late to this thread and am flabbergated by all this. Double Dex0rz = VILE. VILE. Creme Eggs, mars bars, all seriously narsty & a waste ov good cocoa solids. Galaxy "Liason" & "Hazelnut Galaxy" about as near to palatable as you'll get in a newsagent. Do you londoners not have branches of Thornton's? Eat their chocolate & there is no going back to all that waxy crap!

Norman Phay, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

twelve years pass...

double deckers vs lion vs toffee crisp vs drifter vs crunchie

am I leaving anything obv out there? no nuts, must have a crispy/crunchy element

local eire man (darraghmac), Saturday, 31 January 2015 23:19 (nine years ago) link

if it gets to this evening with no further contributiins thats held as final poll entries just sayin

local eire man (darraghmac), Saturday, 31 January 2015 23:59 (nine years ago) link

Sack Crunchie from that list. Always too dry and mangles the inside of my mouth.

kinder, Sunday, 1 February 2015 08:39 (nine years ago) link

The joy of cramming a whole nougat layer into your gob after completing the task of gnawing off all the biscuit might win this for the DD. Makes up for lack of caramel element.

Fuse and Maverick are sadly missed.

kinder, Sunday, 1 February 2015 08:46 (nine years ago) link

instead you should do a poll that's a link to this thread and some kind of comprehension test for current ilx

♛ LIL UNIT ♛ (thomp), Sunday, 1 February 2015 10:47 (nine years ago) link

ey kinder ive always liked you so imma let that pass but if you need a safety warning on yr crunchie wrapper that's btwn u and god

local eire man (darraghmac), Sunday, 1 February 2015 11:37 (nine years ago) link

I like Crunchies almost as much as I like Double Deckers. If there was a poll, I think the much maligned Boost ("Slightly rippled with a flat underside") would come last.

Also S (not D) Fry's Turkish Delight: full of Eastern promise and then covered in chocolate. Eating actual Turkish Delight as an adult was a real shock.
